Ok Guys...I thought i would ask here.....A friend bought a low mileage 1999 Chevy extended cab,auto trans with 348? gears....he says he gets 28 MPG .....sorry but I am having a hard time believing a full size extended cab gets that?...

HAHA, nope!

Tell him that anything over about 22 MPGs is not common on such a truck.

Is it 5.3 or what?

2 or 4wd?

Try talking to him when he hasn't been drinking... Or maybe he checked it on a 28 mile downhill stretch of road. I'd tell you what he is full of but this ain't that kind of place.

Maybe he only drives it downhill with a tailwind. (kidding) Maybe on one occasion for a short trip somewhere, but no way he can average 28. I got 23 with a '88 RCLB 5.0 5 speed from Nashville to Memphis going 62 tops, but that was only 1 time.

Did he by chance install any lawn tractor wheels on it? Unless he's flinstoning it I highly doubt the MPG.

Aritmetic, mathematics, algebra, for some are not offered in public schools.

So, is there an in dash readout that is providing this information? Or is this MPG provided by the driver using paper and pencil?

4.8 engine with 16" low profile tires(original spare tire is alot taller than what he has on truck

....still bragging he gets 28 miles per gallon...lol

If the tires are significantly smaller in circumference, the odometer may be reading more miles than he actually traveled, but there would have to be a lot of difference in the circumference.
