Im debating on a Detroit Tru Trac and an Auburn unit. Anyone have any preferences as far as replacing the G80 on a newer truck? This will go along withmy lift, tires, and gears. 4 wheel parts reccomended the Auburn unit.I need some advice though.

Either one is a very strong unit. If you want to brag with the big boys get a Detroit.

I personally like the air lockers or e-lockers, you can disengage them for driving the streets, saving gas and not having the rear swing out on you at every corner. You'll be the loudest thing in the underground lot (provided you can fit down there) while your driving around looking for a parking spot, if you get a full on locker.

Eaton makes a nice E-Locker. You can't go wrong with Eaton or Detoit(an Eaton brand). I had a Powertrax No-Slip and I though it sucked. It wasn't any quieter than any other locker i ever heard. Its supposed to have limited slip smoothness but it really isn't any different than a standard locker as far as that goes. Detoit or Eaton would be your best bet IMO.

I don't actually know if anyone other than Eaton makes an e-locker

Actually, if your not doing any hardcore offroading, depending on the amount of power and the size of tires your going with (35+ do it) I don't think you'd even have to get rid of the G80...its actually a pretty good locker. It is made by Eaton.

Auburn makes something called the Ected.

Its a limited slip/locker. I would prefer Eaton over Auburn though. Auburn is a good company its just that Eaton makes some pretty good stuff and its usually hold up better than most.

I acutally like how the G80 works. It's there when you need it, and if you don't need it, you don't know its there. As long as you don't beat the hell out of it I'd like to think it would hold up, I broke mine in my 8.5 rear but I was very hard on it. The second one worked great until I sold the truck. My current truck has the larger 10.5" rear and the G80 and It works great for what I do.

From what I hear, as long as you keep the truck straight and hammer on it it's fine.

Its when you try doing donuts and fishtailing and other stupid stuff on dry pavement, thats when it likes to say F*** you.

If you remove all the TM, I don't believe it would stand up very well in that situation either though.

I have a bronco that's built for wheeling-- rubicon, fordyce and etc. I like the detroit the best as far as ruggedness and reliability but it's always, always "there". Driving in rain is especially weird.

If you aren't going for hard core wheeling, I'd stick with the g80 if you have it already or go with an auburn if you are open. Just me $0.02.
