Xm Cancelled

Here is some information that some of you might want to hear.

I picked up my truck and started XM subscription Nov. 3rd. Driving to a job (about 2 hrs away) my XM quit working and all I got was info and HILLARY CLINTON!!!!!!! (NO LIE!). Anyway, I was close to the job site so figured I would call after I was done.

So I looked up the XM customer # and they figured out someone called and cancelled my subscription Nov. 10th :nono: . They had that record. That person had to have the XM ID#, channel 1 I believe, to do this. This person had to confirm my mailing address/phone #/ and name. All of which she read off, so all they had to do was say yes. They did turn back on the subscription and gave me 3 additional months free  !!!

Did not know if anyone had this similar issue? And only 2 others have driven the truck and would have no reason to do such a thing.

Similar topic: Got an email from Sirius last week (another vehicle) that was encouraging stock holders to vote FOR the XM-Sirius merger. Promoting proxy votes. Hopefully it will come soon but I'm not holding my breath :sigh: .

Are those XM radios individually coded so they can just turn yours off remotely?

XM radio doesn't turn your radio off, but it can disconnect your service - much the same way your cell phone service may get disconnected if you don't pay your bill. Your XM receiver has a code that displays on your radio when it's on a certain channel - which is the number you give XM so they can connect/disconnect your service when you start/stop your subscription.

LF Motorsports, is your XM radio in a brand new truck or a used truck? If it's a used one, I could see where the previous owner may have remembered to cancel the service and perhaps the XM CSR didn't confirm the address and such before flipping the switch.

Also, it's possible that XM has the name and address of both you and the previous owner as an account holder tied to your radio ID; when the prior owner called in, the CSR could have confirmed the old address rather than the new one.

Regardless, it's kind of crazy.

Is this a brand new truck or a used truck?

I haven't done nothing and I get XM. I guess it is the 3 free months.

This happened to a friend of mine and they canceled his XM without verification of address, phone, or whatever they ask for...no joke! After he called them to ask what was up and found out that this had happened, they ended up cutting him a check for a years worth of XM. Needless to say he didn't want the service anymore.

Looking for another thread and wanted to update this one.

It is a brand new truck. Only had XM for just over 1 week when it was shut down. The verification questions they asked, all I had to do was say yes. I did not have to tell them anything as in me state the addresss, phone #, etc.

I believe the radio code is on channel 0 to identify the radio.

They did give me an additional 3 months free but I am still confused why it happened. Lastly, I have not heard from XM as to who or why it happened.

You may live in a perfect world where no one makes mistakes but the rest of us do not. It is human nature to make a mistake now and again. They made a mistake. The gave you 3 months of free service for their mistake. If this is the worst that ever happens to you consider your self lucky.

May the force be with you,

I sure do like XM, I swear, it saves me in the morning from terrible talk. Also, 171 has really neat trucking related stuff. Listen to that station for a while, particularly the Trucking Bozo, I had no idea how much those 18 wheelers had to juggle on the business side of their jobs.
