Wanting Your Opinions.....

Hey everyone,

I will try and be brief.

A couple of years ago I bought my truck(pictured below) from a used car lot.........it was advertized as what it is.....a 2000 Silvy ECSB 1500 Z71.

Here is my problem.......I bought the truck because it is what it is......and excpecially because it was a Z71.......I know the differences between the Z71 and regular 4x4 are minimal.....but I probably would not have bought it if it was a 4x4......but thats just me.

Not being a GM tech or anything like that(and most consumeres have no idea about RPO codes and such)...........I have just recently found out that my truck is not a factory Z71.

To me, that misrepresentation.

Do you think I have any case to go back to this dealer for comp?...........what is the Z71 option worth from factory?

Thanks.

What exactly are your damages? You would have prove some type of damage or wrongdoing on the part of the car dealer. He (most likely) was not aware that it wasn't a factory Z-71. Most dealers don't run codes. Statue of limitations has probably ran out too. You have no case.

Depends on a few factors...But seeing as how the Z71 option code nets you basically different shocks, a couple of stickers and uh...Well...Not much more...I doubt you'll get much even if you proved they did it on purpose.

KBB does list Z71 as something that adds value, so if they put that on a document to get more money out of the bank, then you might have a case...I doubt it though.

Realistically I have no damages.....except maybe I overpaid for the truck.......Z71's command more money than regular 4x4......and now I may be liable if I try and sell my truck as a Z71...and quite frankly the dealer better know what they are selling thats their job.......imagine buying a ZR1 or Z06 corvette and finding out later its just a regular vette.....to most consumers the only visual difference is badging.

I think you might have some sort of case, based on it was advertised as a Z-71 and it is not. Will you get anything for it, probably not.

Ya.....it just pisses me off more than anything.

Z71 could have:

Skid plates, locking diff, more aggressive tires, different wheels, specifically tuned shocks and springs, and a freer flowing airbox...oh and some stickers.

Illegal, unethical, immoral.

With my 2008 GMC 1500 4x4 long bed ordered with Ornamantation Delete, I had planned on buying from dealer new decals/emblems that state 2500. Then trade it in in 3 years. How much more is a 2500 over a 1500?

Got ya going for a minute, didn't I. Nope, I never thought of it until this posting. And no, I am not doing this. I don't want Homeland Security or the locals knocking on my door for fraud or deception or whatever!

Why? It's not like a Z71 is really worth much more than it's weight in stickers and skidplates.

Because its misrepresentation............

Read my post about the GM Certified used vehicle misrepresentation that occurs by GM dealers and is sanctioned by GM Corporate - anytime you purchase a used vehicle, there's misrepresentation to a greater or lesser degree.

It goes back to the old line "A granny drove it a total of 4000 miles, had it parked in her garage 90% of the time, and was very easy on it when she took it to church every Sunday." But if you looked a little closer, you'd see the tires granny had on it were bald, she must have loved listening to the 12" subwoofers under the seat, she must have been in a hurry to get to church on Sunday with the aftermaket supercharger under the hood and those racing stripes down the side were there to wow the grandkids!!!

As stated, caveat emptor. Do as I'm going to do - never purchase from that dealer again, if you ever buy used again don't purchase GM Certified, and if you do buy used always inspect the thing from top to bottom until you are well satisfied that it a satisfactory unit. If you're pressured into purchasing it because it may go to someone else, let it go as it's better that it's their steal of a deal rather than your headache. Do the homework up front and it may save you later.

I'd buy a GM Certified rig before I bought a non GM Certified rig... I don't care if it's got a $2 Fram filter on it. It's got a 100k mile drivetrain warranty. Non certified don't have that.

Used dealers are pretty much hard-selling dirtbags...None of us are going to change that.
