At dealership today.

Waiting, I walk around and look at the vast array of new trucks. GMT900 2007 and 2008.

I notice that the 2007 regular cab 4x4 long bed 4.8 3.42 lists 15 and 19 for MPG.

I notice that the 2008 regular cab 4x4 long bed 4.8 3.42 lists 14 and 18 for MPG.

These two were basically the same truck option for option, just different model year.

What happened to the MPG?

2008 was the first year of the new testing method so all fuel ratings are worse for 2008, not just on Chevys.

A new 2008 Chrysler PT cruiser with auto transmission and regular 4 cylinder (non-turbo) engine is now rated at 19 MPG city (!) and 23 HWY. This is an economy car? My 6 cylinder Mazda 626 with 5 speed manual transmission gets 25MPG city consistently, even with 183k miles on the clock.

A lot of people are upset about those mileage ratings having gone down considerably, especially on small cars. On Honda Civics, the highway mileage now is only about 35 MPG, down from 40 last year.

the way it is rated and the sheer weight of these cars......

PT cruisers? They weigh about 3200 lbs, same as my Mazda.

I get highway mileage that good (or better) on my 2 1/2 ton Cadillac DTS Performance Sedan. Regular DTS is rated at 25 highway.:nono:

My Chevy 1500 Express gets about 17 /18, mostly city / local freeway driving.

My V6 Ford Taurus only beats the Caddy about 2 or 3 MPG. For the difference in MPG it ain't worth it for me to be cramped up in a little car. I am getting old and my hips and lower back ain't what they used to be.:)

I just purchased a NNBS 07 Silverado ECSB with the 5.3L V8.

It is stickered to get 16 and 22 for MPG. I had a 2007 NBS Silverado Classic with the V6 that I traded for the NNBS. The sticker was 15 and 20. I was able to consistantly get between 18-19 with 70/30 Highway to City driving.

I hope to get 17-19 with the V8.
