What Should I Do?

Alright im in a VERY large pickle.

i have a truck that gets 9 mpg and is 18 years old. im 16 years old... i only make $250 every two weeks as of now.

 

i have a 4 wheeler (07 Grizzly 700) i still owe $5800

 

My paycheck is divided up like this EVERY time

$75-$85 Gas-Up For 2 weeks

$100-$125 - 4 wheeler

 

it leaves me almost nothing. everytime

 

i CANT afford a new truck not at all. but it seems like my truck isnt cutting it for me. i have 1 Fender Flare thats fixable but almost not attached to truck anymore. i can hardly drive the truck because when i get past 65 i cant give it any throttle or it is bogging down and kicking into passing gear every two seconds. the shocks are WAY shot, oil pressure only ranges from 15-35, alternator likes to cut out at stop lights for a split second, have a tire that likes to leak, and other minor things.

 

i dont know how much you can help but myabe you could tell me how i could spend my money to make my truck all that it can be for a high school kid with no money but needs a dependable truck.

 

(BTW i wont sell the 4 wheeler)

Agreed. There are always more jobs out there that pay better. If you live in a farming community, see if any farmers are looking for some help. Check places you wouldn't think to look. Manual labor pays pretty well.

I agree... Get creative... don't give up the things you want. Make more money. I learned a long time ago that my toys were going to be expensive so I got crafty and started making money. I haven't looked back since.

i know but its hard to pick up a 2nd job i cant work a full time job and i only have 3 hours to work every night after my 1st job is done. school is 7:30-3:00 then i start 3:15-6:00 and on thur to 7:00. on sat i work 9:00-2. i mean i could work a part of saturday and sunday, but that almost it and i dont know who would hire somebody to jsut work on them days.

Just by being here, we know you can do it. I've seen your posts. OR...Maybe you just need to replace your current job with one that makes a few more bucks or make your current employer feel like he needs to pay you more because you are too valuable to let go.

 

Anything worth doing is going to be difficult up front.

well in the summer i was making around $30/hr sometimes when i got OT i was getting $45 putting in stoplights.

 

now i only get $7 cause im in training. for a new job that deals with Truck Accessories

It's all about priorities man. Gotta decide what's more important. Sometimes you gotta work harder and make sacrifices. That may mean getting a better job, a worse job that pays more, an additional job, or selling something you really don't want to. All up to you!

Sell the truck. Anything with that kind of mileage is going to keep you hamstrung forever. You're constantly going to be pouring money into it and even when you have it working right it will bankrupt you with gas costs.

 

Sell it and buy something cheap on gas, or ride a bicycle. For now! Be patient, and save your money for something that is fundamentally sound and that, when you spend money on it, you're adding to it instead of putting a new paintjob on a rust-bucket.

 

For now stop spending unwisely, start saving, and then plan to spend wisely later.

 

And you deserve major credit for asking advice!!

A lot of businesses hire high school kids to work just weekends.

Sell those vehicles and get a used Chevy Cavalier. You can pick up one in good shape dirt cheap and it gets about 30 MPG. They are pretty reliable from what I hear.

And don't let ANYTHING get in the way of school. You only get one chance at that.

 

There will be plenty of time to find another part-time job or another truck, but if you don't do well at school, that will always stick with you.
