Man's '91 Chevy nears million-mile mark

MEDFORD, Wis. - Frank Oresnik is on the verge of making history driving his old standby — the pickup truck he says is about to pass the 1 million mile mark.

Oresnik took the 1991 Chevrolet Silverado to the Oil Ex-Change Quick Lube in Medford on Thursday for what he expects will be its last oil change and tuneup before hitting the magic number.

He said the truck is 1,200 miles from a million, and once he hits the mark he will retire the vehicle.

"I feel almost like the longtime NFL player as he goes into his last training camp knowing this is the end," Oresnik said.

He credits proper maintenance and a good measure of luck for allowing the truck to rack up so many miles. He said he's had more than 300 oil changes and tuneups at the Medford business, going in every 3,000 miles.

The truck has had four radiators, three gas tanks, five transmissions and six water pumps, but the engine has never been overhauled, Oresnik said.

He bought the Silverado in June 1996 after the original owner put 41,000 miles on it. Oresnik uses the vehicle to deliver seafood in three states, putting on about 85,000 miles a year.

Can Toyota say anything like that?

The dealership I bought my truck from, where I also get my oil changes done, has a banner on their garage wall about the 200,000 mile club.

Nothing like this though. He should send this in to Chevrolet.

Musta been a good year - I have a '91 that I gave my son as a beater. It has about 335K on it and runs like new. The body will rot off before the engine dies, guaranteed.

Is that a 350 engine? I believe it had throttle body injection that year. I guess most skeptics should be convinced by now that changing engine oil every 3k miles is not such a bad idea.

Just think, he could have changed the oil 200 times instead of 330, and still had no problem getting a million miles out of it. Let's see, 25 dollars times 130 changes, equals an extra 3250 bucks in his pocket. and no additional wear on his engine. Then include his time, and realistically could have gone to changes every 7.5k miles. This would be 133 oil changes instead of 330, so 200 changes times 25 dollars, equals 5,000 dollars more in his pocket, and still no additional engine wear. 330 changes, or every 3k miles equals, complete waste of time and money.

85000 miles a year and 3000 mile OCI comes out to be a oil change every 12 .8 days

The problem with your argument is that you have nothing to back it up with, while the million mile pickup owner does. :)

Read the data, science, and your owners manual. You do know how to read, right?

Yeah, If I had to drive that much I wouldn't change the oil every 12 days. Besides, most of the miles were probably highway.
