Speed Governer/limiter For New Chevy Silverado?

Hello!

Does anyone know if there are anykind of "speed governers/limiters" available for 2005-2008 Chevy Silverados.

Also, is it possible to re-program the Powertrain Control Modul... for a top speed of 60-70miles/hr.

You can order a new truck with a 70MPH speed limiter. Otherwise the limit is something like 95 MPH. Not sure about the exact number, but it is in the 90's.

Not sure if you can reprogram the truck for the limiter, but I would assume you could.

I have recently seen some Chevy WT's optioned with this :

"Governor, 70 MPH, (MSRP = No Charge) Provides electronic software to facilitate 70-MPH maximum road speed (9B9)"

I'm not sure exactly what all it entails, though. You might call your local Chevy or GMC dealer and ask what is included with RPO Code 9B9. You "might" be able to order the parts and retrofit it to a truck. I have no way of knowing if that's actually possible or not, though.

That's what I was thinking about earlier, but

a) it says it's electronic

b) If I can tune it to up the speed limiter, why can't I lower it using a tune? The only problem I could see with this one is finding somewhere to tune it.

I have the opposite situation. I just bought a former Penske box truck to convert to a "Toy Hauler". It is a 2001 GMC Savana 3500 cutaway. In driving it home, 450 miles, I quickly learned it has a "speed limiter/governor" on it. I looked at the RPO codes and saw it came from the factory with RPO code 9B9. This is described as "governor,electronic speed sensor-70MPH" and that's exactly what it does. You can run 69 all day, no problem, hit 70 and it does a nose dive and pukes, until it drops back to 69.

I fully understand why Penske would order their trucks this way, LIABILITY.

My problem is, on Interstates with a 70 MPH limit, I can't even do that. This can be more a liability itself than the intended purpose for the limiter. Anyone whose driven the interstates, and wants to get ON it quickly, or get around 3,4,5 semi's knows what I'm talking about.

I have heard or read that most GMC service locations can "plug in" to the trucks computer and remove , or at least raise, the limit. However, the 3 places I have talked to so far say they can't do that. I wonder if it's that they CAN'T or they WONT ? Anyone have any further info on this ?
