I have a 2004 Sliverado 3/4 ton, the doors were all painted when I bought it a year ago as the had some minor blemishes, now the question..... It had little bubles on each of the molding; apparently from the double sided tape and the molding itself is starting to turn brown, I buffed one doors up and it looks good now but I was thinking of removing it all together. Anyone have a truck like this with door moldings removed? bad for getting door dings? general appearance?

Anyone know where to get Sierra molding cheaper than what the dealer sells it for? Maybe a switch to thin chrome molding would be nice?

I think removing it makes the trucks look cheap. Slab sided without anything just looks that way to me. Many new cars these days come without any moldings or any kind of side trim. Take a look at them after they have been on the road a few months... dings galore.

I'd rather have the moldings than dings.

+1, unless it's a highly modified truck. On a mostly stock truck though, it looks like a base model.

I myself do not like the side stock side moldings i think they look like crap and every one is right they do save door dings but i cam up with a solution that i like I dont know if this is the look you want on your truck but i have a buddy who works at linex and he did my bed and i decided that i was gonna take my modings off and so i sanded from the body line down and my buddy linexed it for me I have gotten many compliments on it and i like it a lot you can open a door on it all you want and it doesnt mess mine up it scratches and dings their door just a thought

I voted to remove it. But, what I really think should be done is replace the BSM's that are on the truck. The ones that are on there don't look good on the truck. But, replacing them with ones that aren't discolored, etc. would help the overall look of the truck.

Do you have pictures of this setup?

I think the GMT700's got it right with the chrome strip on the molding integrated with the wheel well molding. Second would be the Sierra molding pictured above. My 'Burban is not awful, but the chrome part is hazy, and the black plastic portion requires dressing to keep the "evenness" of color. I also have a visible bump on each piece.

I agree, molding is sacrificial, I'd much rather have the molding take the hits instead of my paint.......not to mention, if you remove it looks like a base model.
