I have an 06 Sierra 1500 4wd Z71, and was very thrilled to find this forum. I have already learned a great deal here. I just got the True Flow XDi CAi on my truck. I love it, and it is many thanks to this forum. I just got back from IRAQ and found myself in the middle of HIGH gas prices. I was ready to trade the truck in and then I read a ton on modification on the truck, and how they can add MPG. You guys are great and I look forward to joining in on your knowledge base. My main question is Do Chips/Tuners really help MPG?

I cannot answer your question, but I can welcome you to the forum. Lots of good info here, and lively discussions. It is all good.

Welcome to the site.

My experience with our shop and tuners has been that they do not add MPG. This may be because the drivers that install a tune are generally looking for performance and probably drive the truck harder once it has a little more power. Some tuners do claim to be good for MPG.

Anybody else?

as Z has pointed out, tuners do not necessarily give better MPG, they may remove much of the 'nannies' that GM has placed on the vehicle, and they MAY give a slight MPG increase with a less restrictive intake/exhaust setup and all unnecessary weight removed from the vehicle. If you reduce the weight of the tires/rims and other items that can be reduced (in the front of the vehicle), these things will add up to a better MPG (So long as you keep your foot out of it!)

Thank you for helping to protect our country & welcome to the forum!

I cannot answer your question yet, I will be getting a custom tune in the future, but the night-owls will be here before too long to give their great advice.

Welcome to the forum bro, I got V-Max and I got Black Bear 91 Octane Performance tune and when I don't smash on the truck I get better mileage about 2mpg better than when it was stock, but I have to drive speed limit and take off slow, but once I start smashing my mpg goes down. What military branch are u in?
