Abs Issue?

Cruising the loop on way home (rush hour)...

 

traffic slows quickly all of a sudden (guard rail crew... no warning signs )...

 

I applied heavy breaking and rear tires locked up. No pulsating from brake pedal, fronts were unlocked.

 

Shouldn't the ABS system prevent rear from locking up?

 

What gives... am I misunderstanding the system?

 

No codes/no warning lights/no DIC messages that anything is wrong.

Yeah a properly functioning ABS system will pulsate and prevent complete lock up. Mine will only skid for 1 foot in the back then it pulsates like crazy and stop with no more skid.

Doesn't sound like functioning ABS to me. You should never slide a wheel without activating the system. I'd get it checked before you have to brake hard in the wet... just for the sake of knowing.

Mine wont skid I worded that wrong, I will hear a quick screech upon jamming the brakes it just grabs quick and abs is immediately activated.

Yeah I was agreeing with you. Mine will skid but only for a split second and then the dreaded pedal vibration sets in. He needs to get it checked.

Thats for sure it might be a bad module or something but its under warranty hopefully depending on your mileage

I agree with you --- smells like a module.

 

Of all the eletronics/DIC/ECM/TCM/BCM and other nannies, it's disconcerting that something as critical as rear ABS functionality has left a doubt in my mind with no warning or indication that there may be a problem.

 

I am still under warranty, so that's not an issue.

 

I recall last winter that the ABS would engage readily on the front wheels --- and i was assuming the rear wheels. This last incident, on dry pavement, with the rear axle, was eye-opening and concerning. Good thing it wasn't raining.

 

Being that the rear are drums (my last truck had discs all the way around), would this influene ABS functionality?
