I know that is kinda long but that is all the options it has. He said he could sell it for 23000 to me. Sounds like a pretty good deal just wondering if this is better to get the 08 with these killer deals or the 09 with the six speed transmission? Does this sound good to everyone as far as deals go right now? Thanks in advance.

Looks like a great buy. They won't deal that much on the 09. Trucks like that one were selling for 28,000 back before gas spiked... 23K is a good price.

Yeah I was kinda thinking it looks like a pretty good buy. I really dont think I need the 6 speed for an extra 5k and that is the only difference between the 08 and 09 that I can tell.

That's a nice looking truck.... ebony cloth interior.... buy a lint brush (fair warning)

Other than that.....

I assume this is a 2WD truck. I found new '08 GMC Sierras to be somewhat more expensive with the same packages than Chevys. For example:

new '08 2WD extended cab Sierra 1500, SLT1 package, 5.3, tow pkg, rear locker, aluminum wheels, fog lights. The bottom line price before taxes was $ 21,500. The MSRP was $ 29,800.

new '08 2 WD crew cab Silverado 1500 LT1 package, 5.3, tow pkg, rear locker, aluminum wheels, power driver's seat, remote start, auto A/C, steering wheel radio controls, bed liner, fog lights. The bottom line price before taxes was $ 20,100. The MSRP was $ 31,500.

The Chevy, being a crew cab and therefore a more expensive truck is clearly a better buy here. It also has the LT1 convenience package worth about $ 650 (remote start, etc).

The reason why this Chevy was so much cheaper, as the dealer explained to me was that the truck was made before May 08 and there are additional rebates on some trucks manufactured before certain dates. It so happened that this truck qualified for a whopping $ 7500 in rebates.

Ask you GM dealer about this. You may be able to save additional $ 1000 just by buying a new truck that is two months older.

Yeah this truck has the 7000 in rebates because it is older than 200 days. He gave me a list of 4 trucks all pretty similar and this one had the most options and the cheapest because of that. How do I know if this vehicle is flexfuel or not? I didnt see it listed on the options?

Well the only reason I am going with GMC is because of the body style. I am not a fan of the new Chevys design on the front end. Wow is ebony that bad? I am trying to get the gm website to work right so I can tell but it never does.

So are you saying that leather is the only option to avoid this lint issue?

Good seat covers are a far cheaper option. Also, lighter color cloth seat do not seem to have such a bad problem with lint.

As said above, stay away from "Ebony Cloth"

I have to respectfully disagree. I have currently have Ebony Cloth in my '08 and I would do it all over again. Maybe mine doesn't collect lint as bad as others...who knows. During my weekly routine of cleaning the truck up, I take the lint roller and touch up the seats. Yes, a bit of an inconvenience but the extra 5-10 minutes that it takes isn't a big deal. I like the Ebony color MUCH BETTER than the Light Titanium in my '07 GMT900.

I like GM's cloth much better than their "leather." I would also go with good seat covers vs the leather option from GM like another member mentioned.

One way to look at your transmission question is the 4 speed is proven and the 6 speed is relatively new. I think both are good products but the 6 speed probably isn't worth the extra $5,000. Also, the '09's come with bluetooth so keep that in mind. Still probably not worth the price difference but something to consider if the combination of those 2 additions is a big deal for you.

That sounds like a great truck. I would pull the trigger!

Yeah thanks for the heads up guys. i think most all the new vehicles with cloth are lint magnets. My friends Altima with cloth is a major lint magnet. I think the ebony looks better than anything else in my opinion. If I dont like it I can say you told me so lol. Sorry for so many questions but is there any way to tell if its flexfuel or not?

    • Did you ever get this worked out? Mike is doing the two start thing now too. This is after a new camera back in December.
    • I’m doing an experiment on a vehicle I don’t have much money in. I’m going by the premise that after they last 100K miles they were no mechanical problems with assembly. Or defects with the parts. With oil changes by the minder for the first 127K miles when I acquired it. I quickly went through low mileage oil changes then settled on 5k oil changes with close to 170K miles on the vehicle currently. I did have the option to turn off the cylinder deactivation. I didn’t on this vehicle because it’s in ECONOMY mode at least half the time. It should be a no brainer frequent oil changes are the key. The manufacturer gets away with the long oil changes with its severe service  maintenance. Just ask them what is normal.
    • Even set to "recirculated", the air pushes out and is hot. I have noticed that sometime it doesn't want to switch between recirculated/vented air. Say it is set to Circulated Air and I want to switch to Vented, when I click the Vented button, it just quickly lights up/clicks and immediatly switches back to Circulated. It's done this a few times now. So maybe it is an actuator getting stuck? But then, that doesn't explain the hot air when everything is off does it?
    • I wonder what the price is out at the coast, Big Sur or other out of the way locations as I bet they are charging quite a premium over the in land pumps.
    • Were you looking at the HD trucks on the GM website or the half tons as that makes all the difference. As far as I know there are only two options for the HD trucks and that is the standard 2 speed transfer case or the 2 speed transfer case that has the added 4 high auto feature and they put that transfer case by default into the LTZ and High Country although its optional in the LT and not sure if its available in the work trucks.    The half tons, that is where its been a total mess in my estimation for a few years now with most trucks below the top trim having the single speed transfer case as standard but with the option of having the two speed such as one would get by choosing the Z71 package, however then not being able to get the two speed transfer case with the towing package unless it was a higher trim truck AND had the 6.2 gas so one could combine the towing package gearing diffs with the two speed transfer case. Having said that if its a trail boss package then it gets the two speed transfer case but not necessarily able to get the tow package as it would depend on trim level and engine chosen. Believe me, people have bought the GM half tons assuming "of course it will have a two speed transfer case" only to find out after when they really pay attention to what they now own .... crap, there is NO low range !.    I don't believe Ford or Ram have gone that way yet with their half tons but like I say its been a few years now that GM has done this with the half tons.
