State Trooper Tahoe

Recommended Posts

I was pumping gas yesterday when a Alabama state trooper pulled up on the otherside of the pump. I have a 2007 GMC with the 5.3L V8. I asked whim if his Tahoe had the bigger 6.0L in it. He said that there was no-way it even needed it. I figured the state trooper would have a 6.0L police edition. He said the only difference in his 5.3 and my 5.3 is that the Tahoes were lowered 1" all around, steel drive shaft, and the computer has been completely re-mapped. The trooper told me that his Tahoe ( and all others) will run 155 mph! He said he has had his at 155 on the interstate responding to calls multiple times. Just thouht I would share. I thought it was pretty impresive

Wow, a state trooper that actually knows a little bit about the vehicle he's driving?! I'm Impressed!

When I was a young man interested in getting away from troupers, it sucked. They all had screaming 440 Mopars in Vermont that were real tough to beat. I had a slow car so I always got the tickets.

That's funny because the crown vics cannot get anywhere near 150mph, and they are way more aerodynamic at high speed. Not to mention taller gears.

Being a former P71 (Crown Vic Police Package) Owner (had 2 of em) they are restricted to 140, but well capable of hitting 150+ with a tune as has been proven by several P71 owners. As for the Tahoes, 120 MPH fuel cut off is correct, but again is able to be defeated easily with a tune. My guess would be they are good for top end (redline) of around 140ish.

The tahoe is never going to hit 140HP with stock horsepower. Wind resistance would be too great at that speed. Now give it another 120HP...

Why do the newer crown vic police packages have lower top speeds than they used to? My in-law's state patrol squad cannot make it over 127/130, where his old one could do closer to 135. This is with 3.55 gears and the same power. Did Ford de-tune them slightly for safety concerns?

They are also 2wd, at least all of the ones my buddy built were. he said they were also rated for high speed pursuit, but i dont remember what they are governed at.

i agree that a 2wd tahoe would be power/drag limited to around 120-125.

140 in a box like a Tahoe would take a bunch of horsepower. Aerodynamic drag increases exponentially with speed.

Usually the police cars/trucks only have different alts, suspension, and way better handling nothing is different performance but some arent governed i know my 9c1 will go until it self destructs or until the tires blow out.
