Fed Up With Neighbor

Sorry guys..

Have to vent about a neighbor. She complains about noise (boys playing in backyard), complained to the HOA about a solar panel for my pool, and now is complaining about a play system / swing set in my back yard. She's a police officer and I think the think's I should be intimidated by her. She say's I'm lucky she hasn't filed noise compalints with the city (yeah.. like complaining about a 4 year old at 1:00 in the afternoon is going to fly).

Now I have the HOA meeting to determine whether or not I get to have a play set in the backyard.

I really want to padlock the gates of the community when she has the police cruiser parked in front of her house.

Hey Stud,

It seems she has quite an attraction to you. She'll take any contact, even negative. You know what you have to do to make her happy. Now grab your feather duster and go over there and compromise.

PS. She likes the donkey punch

That sucks. I hope you get to keep the play set. Maybe they'd rather have your kids be inside during the day playing video games and eating junk food like their kids. Kids are loud when they play, as long as its normal loud and not obnoxious screaming, then let them play. Make sure to thoroughly look through your rules or handbook for our HOA if you have one so you can go prepared to defend yourself. I hope I never have the liberty to live in a controlled neighborhood. I want to do whatever the hell I can (within reason) on the property I own. How dare your kids play in your own back yard!

Man thats a hard topic...

We have 9 houses in our developement... Everyone gets along great.. Ever since the knee sugery the 2 neighbors right next to me have been in and out everyday to check on me to see if I needed anything...

But the lady across the street hates us all... Even if I put my car, or trucks in the street she is after us and I think she reported me to the city about selling Christmas trees in our yard.. I think that the best thing to do is ignore her...

We are fortunate not to have a HOA!

I think this lady is just on a power trip, and she probably is trying to use the fact that she is an officer against you. I would have to also suggest that you read the rules carefully so that you can defend your situation with sections in the rules.

Although it might be hard most of the time, I would try to stay on her good side because she sounds like a real Biotch!

Good luck.

I can understand not being able to make your front yard a boneyard for old cars, being that it hurts the property value of the houses around you, but I can't see why anyone should be told what they can or cannot place in their own back yard.

If you think she is home when she should be working annotate date and time. Let her know you will be personally interested in making sure her time sheet and hours worked jive. Every week forever. She is just another government stooge. Some are good, some are no better than the heal dragging time sheet lying incompetent state workers you see standing over a ditch with their thumb inserted sideways. Let her know her name may well get in the paper as being against a child having a swing set in their back yard. Your kid says, cover me mom I'm going down the slide. Head lines.......Officer puts child on the unsafe crime ridden streets. Four year old's swing set terrifies trained police officer with Glock, disability requested. Officer suffers from PTSSS Post Traumatic Swing Set Stress. Police union demands action from city.

I have been involved (from a builder/developer perspective) in around a dozen HOA's and deverlopments. I have yet to hear of any restrictions on what is in the back yard. Every single one is concerned first about property value, then security, then political correctness.

A good relationship with the local police department is always valued though. Does your neighbor work at night? Can there be a compromise? As tough as it is to keep emotions out of the situation, (and you probably know this) you will best be served by appearing to try to compromise and want everyone to get along. Let others defend your points.

We had some issues when we first moved into our house. It's a new neighborhood, and the builder still pretty much made up the HOA. The covenants called for a wood privacy fence, scalloped top with decrative posts, stained dark brown. The builder's wife had written the covenants! The scalloped tops and decrative posts would have cost an additional $1K with the amount of fence we needed for our yard. One day while talking to the builder he mentioned he was going to but a privacy fence around the retention pond across the street for our house. I asked what kind and he said just a plain ole dog-eared privacy fence. I mentioned the restrictions in the covent and he said he was the builder, not his wife, and gave me the go-ahead to do a regular privacy fence as well.

So, we do the fence, pay the $400 for dark brown stain and then we get a nasty call from the builder's wife telling us we had to take the fence down because it did not comply with the covents and we hadn't cleared the color through the HOA! Then she starts in about the flag pole in the front yard and how we didn't get approval for that either (I'm a veteran and only fly the U.S. Flag). Fortunately, I have an Excecutive Order signed by the President stating no HOA can prevent anyone from displaying the U.S. Flag on thier property and had the builder's permission for the fence, so I told her to sue me!

Needless to say, the fence and flag pole are still standing, but the builder's wife is long gone, he divorced her @$$! Seems she was causing a lot more hardship in his life as well!

I know this has nothing to do with your neighbor, but I do understand the frustrations with HOAs and covenants!

Set the stage for neighborhood supremacy. Abject fear is a great relations builder.

You need one of these swing sets to to exert your male dominance. Compromise is a FAIL!
