Electric Window Problems

Here is an FYI for anyone that may have a problem with their electric windows.

This is the second chevy pickup that I have had this problem with.

Crew cab. Driver side back door window suddenly either quits working or rolls down by itself.

Took the other truck to the dealer, it was under warranty, and they replaced the driver door switch cluster.

2004 Duramax, had the same problem, out of warranty. Also noticed one night, that when setting the parking brake, got some sparks.

My son removed the kick panel in the drivers floor, and the spring for the parking brake was rubbing on the wiring harness that controlled the electric windows. He rerouted the harness, made repairs, and presto the rear window started working properly and has ever since.

Now I wonder if that was the problem all along with my previous truck.

I'm not sure if my information applies in your case but I remember reading a thread about a similar problem, on one of the truck forums. That thread had pictures showing where sharp metal edges and such down by the parking brake pedal had cut through and shorted out the wiring harness and caused all kinds of short circuiting problems. The thread also recommended checking the clearance of the harness in all such exposed areas and taping and or padding as necessary. I hope this helps.

Cheers, lvlagnum.

I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, I have an extended cab and when its cold (below 35 degrees), the windows make an aweful noise when I lower them in the front on both sides, I never tried the backs but it looks like it scratched the windows on the inside too. Has anyone else had a problem with this???

real_desporado,

I'm not sure about the scratches on the inside but my front driver side window was making a nasty screech when it was cold/wet outside. I took it into the dealer and they supposedly had a TSB on it and replaced the molding or weatherstripping. That fixed my problem. You might want to take it into a dealer and have them check it out. Let us know how it works out.

There's a TSB on that? I'm going to have to take my truck in, my driver's window does that same thing and it's very annoying.
