hi im new to the forums but i saw an old post that described my problems ..when i cold start my 2000 z71 5.3 oil pressure comes up then drops off if i take it easy up to 1500 rpm then drive it easy till it warms up its good rest of day. like i said isaw old post where people were gonna try different things like o-ring on pickup and oil pump did any of these work cause i had my pan and pick up off cleaned with same result dont know what to do is it oil pump and is it hard do install on 5.3 thanks for any help PLEASE HELP

How about a little more info. What mileage? What weight oil and type? What filter? Can you be a little more specific, other than it comes up and drops off?

Do you have to add oil often? What are the ranges in which the oil pressure fluctuates? Have you had the oil pressure sensor checked? As it may be that the sensor is just having problems. I've also heard that a problem with the oil pressure gauge itself can cause these sorts of readings.

first setp anytime i have an oil pressue issue is to put a manual gauge on the engine and see if it does the same thing as the gauge on the dash, like the others said before it could be the sending unit or the gauge, although this sounds a little to consistant to be an electrical problem, you never know.

 

if you have the tools to do so, i put a t fitting off of the engine so i can be reading the manual gauge at the same time as the dash gauge.

What does the oil pressure drop to? Naturally the oil pressure will drop once the engine has warmed up since the oil is more viscous at operating temps.

hey guys thanks for help but i read in a different part of forums to remove pickup tube and replace o ring did so and the thing is perfect.
