Just stopped by the Caddy dealer and the Escalade won't work either... Another option may be to cut the hole a little bigger and put in a rubber grommet/ door plug but I don't know how well it will look.

The piece would likely warp if you did that; there's a couple molded in support gussets on the back of that trim piece that make it hold its shape, and you'd have to remove those to drill out the hole for a plug or anything of that nature.

Just fill the damn hole with black rtv/silicone. I did and it worked great. It may not be the exact color as the peice but it worked.

OK, I verified today that the NBS Suburban/Tahoe will not work on our trucks. Good news for Avalanche Owners is that it will work for them. Problem for the trucks is the bulge in the hood. All the others have a flat hood. Still no dice on the Cadillac piece, I went to the Chevy dealer and didnt have time to stop by GMC/Cadillac to check the Escalade again.

Maybe a noobie question, but if the big SUV's don't have an external whip antenna then where is it located? On my dads 07 caddy DTS I think it's in the windsheild...Maybe if it is set up that way, a person could get that type of glass installed with the next rock chip claim and wire it up that way if the glass is the same size / shape. Just a thought...

I got rid of the antenna on my 09 GMC last night. I kept the original antenna mount put pulled the coax back through the cab and put the antenna underneath the plastic cowl. It still works good for FM but lost most everything on the AM side. Anyone got any ideas of how I can make this better?

As for the hole. I got a rubber plug at lowes and put it in the oven for about 15 minutes at 300 degrees. Then I shoved it in there while it was warm and it molded to the shape. I may end up digging it out because I pushed it in a little far but I think it looks pretty good. Here is a pic.

Caution: Don't bake rubber when your wife is home. They don't like it apparently.

I agree with mjdxtreme. Just fill the hole with some black silicone. That way if you ever need to reinstall the antenna all you have to do is cut the silicone out. Works like a charm. :tumbleweed:

You might need a non-ground plane antenna. Something like these would probably help so would an amplifier.

BTW, for those that are wondering, the antenna is in the right rear glass on upscale Denali/Escalade SUVs.
