New Hampshire - Texas race swap proposed

There is at least a kernel of truth in one of the many rumors circulating about the New Hampshire 300, which was postponed last weekend by NASCAR and is now scheduled to be run on Nov. 23 at New Hampshire International Speedway.

A source Wednesday night confirmed that Bruton Smith contacted Bob Bahre, owner of the New Hampshire track, over the weekend to offer to hold what is now scheduled to be the season's final race at Texas Motor Speedway, which is owned by Smith's Speedway Motorsports Inc.

Smith would share the revenue from the race with Bahre, compensating Bahre for the loss of the date at his track. Smith, meanwhile, would get a second 2001 Cup race for his Texas track in the bargain.

The discussions apparently haven't gone beyond the initial overture from Smith, and the chances of such a swap being made would appear remote. Smith and Bahre each got Cup dates for their tracks by buying 50 percent interest in North Wilkesboro Speedway and their standoff over that has kept the North Wilkesboro track idle.

Since the new date for the New Hampshire race was announced, there have been many rumors about what might happen instead of Winston Cup going to New Hampshire on Thanksgiving weekend.

Early this week there was talk that this weekend's race at Dover might switch with the postponed event. There has also been talk about a possible swap between Rockingham and New Hampshire and even some talk that the New Hampshire race would be canceled outright.

By all appearances, however, New Hampshire International Speedway is progressing with plans to host the race in November. The track's public relations office sent e-mails to media representatives Wednesday asking them to reconfirm their plans to cover the event.

Here's an article I found saying the offer got rejected.  New Hampshire wants the race.

" Offer to move race to Texas spurned

By MIKE HARRIS

AP Motorsports Writer

The owner of New Hampshire International Speedway rejected an offer from Texas Motor Speedway to move the rescheduled New Hampshire 300 on Nov. 23 to Texas.

Bob Bahre, whose family owns and operates the New Hampshire track, declined the offer from TMS owner Bruton Smith to buy the date.

``He's very kind,'' Bahre told The Associated Press on Thursday in a phone interview. ``He called me twice and wanted to talk about a deal, but I told him no.

``We have 91,000 seats sold for the race and we're going to have it here. We think we're going to be in pretty good shape.''

The race was scheduled for last Sunday at the track in Loudon, N.H., but was postponed to the day after Thanksgiving because of the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington.

Smith, chairman of the board of Speedway Motorsports Inc., which owns tracks in Fort Worth, Charlotte, Atlanta, Las Vegas and Sonoma, Calif., has been trying to get a second Winston Cup race for the Texas track since it opened in 1997.

With an average high temperature of 36 degrees in New Hampshire on Nov. 23, Smith apparently saw an opportunity to move the now season-ending event to the warmer climes of Texas.

No Winston Cup race has ever been run as far north at such a late date. But there were no other openings on the 2001 schedule between now and the end of the season, which was scheduled to end in Atlanta on Nov. 18.

Bahre, who opened the New Hampshire track in 1993, said, ``Atlanta is cold in March, too, when they run the spring race. The only thing which could hurt us is snow, but I think we'll be just fine.''

Smith was not immediately available for comment. "

Bob Bahre would heat the stands and the track before Smith got anything out of it. I don't think Bahre would pee on Bruton if he was on fire.

Would he pee on him if he wasn't????:(

LOL

I like that phrase Friz. Thanks:)

I think this is going to be a good race at NHIS!

I mean, c'mon, when else are you going to hear the announcer say

"We are on lap 2 with Bobby..wait...wait, Jeff Godron hit a patch of Black Ice going into turn 3!! Looks like his day is over! Tough break."

:(:D:D

Yeah, then NASCAR will Red-flag the race  cause it snower as the green flag fell and let him pull out his Backup.

I wouldn't pee on either of them if they were on fire!  After what they did with North Wilkesboro, I could care less what these two guys do.

    • Have considered installing a DC to DC charger in your camper to replace your isolator?
    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
