2010 Sierra/silverado

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about the 2010 (non-hybrid) models...?

With Dodge & Ford both dropping new models, you have to hope that the GMT-900 will get at least few more bells & whistles to keep it competitive... but with GM circling the drain, maybe not.

Well in this here forum, one guy mentioned that the silverado was going to get a new bumper type to be more like the sierra. He called it the MCE or Mid Cycle Enhancement.

Also i wonder if GM is still going to go through with their small 4.5/4.6 diesel in the half tons.

oh and yea its kinda early

That would be interesting. Did the guy post pics of this?

I'm sure there'll be some updates. My guess is that the 6-speed will be put in more models. The 6.0 might get dropped completely in favor of the 6.2 or the 6.2 will be made available in more models. Maybe the 4.5L Duramax will be released, but I think that might have been put on hold. They're still competitive so they don't need to do much.

Pretty sure this was only for the HD trucks, not the 1500's.

I do remember seeing those pics. It does look better, but kind of takes away the HD look IMO.

I'd bet the farm that any and all updates will be off the shelf items. Not a lot of R&D going on right now...

The 4.5L information is conflicting:

General Motors plans a 4.5 litre 72-degree[6] V8 for light-duty applications which will be built at GM's powertrain facility in Tonawanda, New York after 2009. Designed to fit in the same space as a Chevrolet Small-Block engine, it is expected to produce over 310 hp (231 kW) and 520 lb·ft (705 N·m) of torque. The small size should allow the engine to be used in a variety of applications, depending on market demand, though it would initially be targeted for the Chevy Silverado/GMC Sierra and Hummer H2.[7] Unlike previous Duramax engines, the 4.5 liter will be designed and built entirely by GM, without assistance from Isuzu.[8]

General Motors Corp.’s revolutionary new 4.5L V-8 Duramax turbo-diesel, which makes its debut in Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra light duty trucks in the 2010 model year, is compact, powerful and fuel-efficient. The 50-state-compliant engine also is lighter, an important consideration in the competitive light truck market, because it was designed with more than 70 fewer parts.

I am praying they offer the 6.2L in a Crewcab LT model. I am starting to nudge my wife on buying a new truck.

Do the 2010 model still come out Aug/Sept time frame?

In a recent letter from chevrolet, the 4.5L is on hold.

Thank you for contacting Chevrolet and for your interest in the 2010 Silverado! We appreciate the time you have taken to write us.

We have been receiving many e-mails with your same concern and suggestion. The 4.5LV-8 Duramax turbo-diesel which you are inquiring about is an engine we were planning to introduce for our 1500 Silverado. But due to GM's economic status, many programs have been delayed or pushed back and we can not say when and if this engine will be introduced into our light duty vehicles. Please keep in contact by visiting the website at www.chevy.com or stay in contact with your dealership. We apologize for this inconvenience. We will document your suggestions and concerns so it can influence our future products.

At Chevrolet, we strive to provide exceptional customer service. If we can be of any further assistance please email us or call 1-800-950-2438, between 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. E.S.T., Monday thru Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. E.S.T., Saturday. Thank you for contacting Chevrolet!

Sincerely,

The side impact crash test results by the IIHS prompted the GM spokesperson to say that "updates are expected for the 2010 model to achieve better results on the IIHS side impact tests" (not an exact quote... just from memory). I took that to mean that they may add side head/body air bags... probably as std equipment on some models.
