Black02Silverado Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Does anyone have commercial experience with string trimmers? I need to get a new one and was wondering the pros and cons of some. I was leaning toward the Stihl FS90R, any thoughts? Good torque, easy of starting and trimmer line reloading.
RyanbabZ71 Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 nothing on the commercial side but I have gone through 3 (worn out pulls) got ticked off and bought the new electric start craftsman. Its great no pulling just plug it in and push the button and it starts right up.
hockeypro1411 Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Is this for actual commercial use, or do you just want something with commercial qualities for your personal use? Either way, I'd recommend the Echo Srm-210. Used them for years, and I love them. They start REALLY easily, too!
killterrorists Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 I have had good luck with the Echo trimmers from home depot. I have never used any of the others you have mentioned.

Some of those are completely different animals than the actual commercial ones. If you're looking to buy a commercial brand, I would strongly suggest going to a local dealer. You might pay a little bit more, but when it comes time to service the equipment, you'll be glad you didn't buy it from a big box store.
Black02Silverado Posted June 25, 2009 Author Posted June 25, 2009 I'm not going to use it for commercial work but I do have 6.5 acres to cut and about half a mile of fence line to run along with about the same in a ditch to keep trimmed. I hear the new 4 mix units have some great low end torque.

Nothing pisses me off more than a small engine that won't start I've been know to throw a chainsaw 30 feet in a fit of rage I mow 7 yards as a part time job in the summer and I use Echo for blowers and string trimmers I am 6'7" and I can't use those trimmers with the bent shaft, kills my back I love the straight shaft for running the edge on sidewalks, I can flip mine sideways and walk and edge at full speed
MarkD Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 My landscape guy uses Stihl and Shindiawa, and swears by both.
LawmanSS Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Stihl is one of the best you could ever have. +1...I'm a Stihl believer, too!
Black02Silverado Posted June 25, 2009 Author Posted June 25, 2009 I'm going to swing by the Eco and Stihl dealer today and check them out. Thanks for all the info!
SilveradoWV Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 I have used a few brands over the years and Stihl is by far the best, plus the local Stihl dealer here provides excellent service and great prices.
MS3DALE Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Stihl is one of the best you could ever have. Stihl here!
MS3DALE Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Oh....And don't forget the John Deere tractor as well!!!!
Nick The Great Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 I'm a big fan of Stihl also. My dad has a John Deere weed eater on the farm. It's probably 15 years old or so and still runs like a beast. It's more of a commercial unit; you have to wear the 5 point harness with it. It's probably 12 or 15 feet long.
