Low Quality Work At Dealership

I have recently been having a issue with my drivers side window rattling around inside the door only when the window is completely down while going over rough roads. I have brought it to the dealer 4 times now for this problem and i have been going in reverse it seems in trying to fix it. They first tried to say everything looked fine the first two times, then they tried to fix the regulator and tighten the bolts, that did not work so they then replaced the regulator.

Again nothing, but now it seems when i opened the door this morning the plastic material behind the door skin is all bunched up in the speaker grill area as it can only be seen when the sun was shining through the grill and did not notice the other night when i picked it up. As i then closed the door i heard a new rattle and just had to start :dunno: at first i though maybe something fell into the door pocket but as i looked closer there is something inside most likely the bulb for the light in the door not to mention bits of plastic falling from where the bolt is by the door handle. Really i expect this kind of piss poor work from a jiffy lube, but expect when going to a gm dealer that the quality of work would be at least up to par or better, especially at their rates!

How should i handle this, i want to be angry but have learned with time that blasting f-bombs to the service adviser most of the time gets you nowhere! I think i have been more then patient with them but when it comes to them having mechanics doing sloppy work on my truck i have to draw the line!

Any gm techs here see this problem come in on the clasic line of silverados, it's a 05 with power windows? My dealer seems to do either nothing or break even more items that were fine before going into the shop!

If I were you, I'd pull the door panel myself and have a look around. Find all the things you want fixed. Take it back to them and explain precisely want you want fixed. Rather than say I want rattle in door fixed, you can say I want this piece of insulation replaced, this bolt tightened, this broken clip replaced, etc. Or just fix it yourself the right way the first time. Let them know you can check up on their work and not leave it up to them to slap it together.

For example I found a missing bolt on my new truck, I didn't say I found a bolt laying in my floor can you find where it goes? (They would probably throw it out, and say they fixed it).

Rather I found where it went and instructed them to replace it.

If they know exactly want you want and that you will make sure they are doing that it might prevent the duplicate trips.

Is it not their job to diagnose it though? If i was a mechanic believe me i would do most thing myself but I'm not, i would do what they did and end up breaking more then i would fix most likely. Not to mention my little 30 piece socket set and assortment of screw drivers are not the tools needed to properly pull off a door skin without ruining the back side of the panel.

I feel your frustrations; you can always take your work to another service department. Try your service department out one last time and let the service manager know that you are un-happy with the results so far, and that your giving them one last chance before to take your business elsewhere.

These stories always confound me.

My GMC dealer, admittedly an excellent one by every measurment, told me, recently, that they can't afford to lose ONE customer at the moment, ESPECIALLY in the service department (as I asssume it is the only part of the dealership operating in the black right now).

If this were me, I would probably go the NEW serice department route immediately. Your present shop has clearly demonstrated that they either 1) are incompetent, 2) don't care, or 3) have SOOOOOO much work that they can't be bothered with your little job. I suspect it's 1) and/or 2).

Take your $$$s to someone that appreciates your buisness. :dunno:

A big key to GM's survival is dealerships! If you don't take care of customers, they won't want your products! Simple business 101! Good luck on your issues, hopefully they will take care of you.

Many GM dealerships around my area (central Florida) act like they are doing you a big favor when you take a vehicle to them for service or warranty work, or try to buy a new vehicle. Judging by their attitude, you would think that GM is making record profits right now and people are beating down dealership doors to buy their products.
