Hub Assembly Gone

A couple weeks ago I posted that thought that I had a ball joint failing. Nope. Wheel bearing definitely. I barely made it home Monday night on it, it was squeeling and hard to hold truck straight. I looked at it when I got home and I could sway it either way about an inch and it was scary. I called GM Roadside Assistance and they towed it to the dealer and they are repairing it now. What is awesome is that is covered on the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty, so is the tow. The truck has less than 50,000 miles so why is the wheel bearing shot? Anyone else have this problem? I dont have any aftermarket wheels and the tires are only 275's.

good to know that was covered under the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty, I have a 08 TrailB DD with the same warranty

50k sounds pretty early for a hub failure. My 99 2500 went 135k ish. $400 something apiece at the dealer, plus labor. Half that online.

I had a bearing failure in the left front, last fall on my 2006 GMT800. The truck had about (I Think) ~ 53-55,000km on it at the time. Fixed under warranty, but a hub bearing should last 200,000 miles. This seems to randomly happen, from what I've read.

I believe mine was helped along by a stuck brake caliper, causing the brake disk and hub to overheat.

I just had the driver side hub replaced on my 2007 GMT900 1500. 22k miles on the clock, never noticed the hub failing, no wobble, no drag nothing. Truck drove great, except for the brake pulsation. When the tech looked at the wheels he noticed the hub was starting to loosen up. 22k is a little soon for me, but the other side is just fine. If GM replaces these things all the way to 100k I am ok with it..just a PITA to get into the shop every 5th oil change...

My 2002 Ford had similar early fail of one front hub. I don't know about GM, but Ford was having their hubs made overseas. Some got proper lubrication and some did not. It was not covered by warranty so I had to eat the $550 repair.

Just did my daughters left front last Saturday on her 03' ho, took about 2hrs and $200. They have 124k on it. Under 100k I'd say bad luck.

Yikes, that is pretty early. When I installed my lift/wheels/tires, I made sure I bought some extras just to have. So far so good.

I wonder if that is failing on my truck. When I make a hard left turn, I can hear a slight squealing sound, kinda like if I was squealing the tires on the road, but I am going quite slow when I make the turn. I have noticed a few times now. The truck has 9000 kilometers on it now. Any thoughts?

I lost both of mine on the front of my truck due to brake overheating at somewhere around 100,000 miles. I made a thread a while back on the brake issue but I can't find it with this slow internet. I would periodically check to make sure that your brakes aren't holding or overheating.

check tires for uneven wear, I had the same problem and it was because truck needed alignment

I have a '06 1500, just had the right front wheel bearing replaced at 63K miles. Seems awfuly early to me to replace a front wheel bearing. When I took to my friends shop, he said the truck is not leaving unless I sign a waiver. He said it could have come apart at any time---not good!

Mine was making a roar and clunking, and the brakes were pulsating. I didnt figure it was the unit bearing until I saw the tire about to fall off, leaning hard. 48,000 is alot early for this but I think the drivers side is going to go out early too as it is making a noise i think, time will tell. The passenger side one made it about 3 months after I started noticing an odd noise. I also have a throttle position sensor gone out that has to be repaired. I guess the general is building these damn things so cheaply that they have to issue a 100,000 mile warranty to keep them going. This all after I had a valve spring break and the tire pressure sensor reset fail to work anymore. I'm pissed, not enough to leave Chevy but this is kinda crappy.
