This is a case where a picture is worth a 1000 words. ;)

Can you post a pic ?

not sure what you mean either, but there is a difference between the one a 1500 has and the one a 2500/3500 has.

The 1500 almost looks like a spoiler in a way, when viewed from the side, where the HD one just follows the shape of the metal underneath.

The tailgate cap thats on the 1500 is commonly known as

the "whaletail" gate cap.

The only place to get one is thru a GM dealer or a junkyard.

I know what you are talking about sonjab, unless you want to basically render your bed useless "because of the obstruction" and not being able to load payloads into your bed normally, then by all means. Imagine having a bar if you will, mounted across the rear of the bed and then having to load your bed with this wide over sized spolier looking thing. Unless if you had a cover it was mounted to where it would go up when the cover rises like a trunk.

How do you know this won't be a useful tool for him? Maybe he has to enter and exit the bed often, or has a disability that hinders him from entering without one. He asked a simple question about where to find a step for his bed.

As long as they are not referring to the "Man Step" found on Fords

The talk show is just too funny.... LOL

The truth is - with the bed height of my 2500HD - I'd love to have a "man-step" built in. OK so call it an "old man step" - nonetheless I find it a real PIA trying to get in/out of the bed when I need to.

FWIW,

You need a step ladder to get into the HD's. Some of the Avalanches have a step molded into the rear bumper corner, and I think both Ford and Dodge have a step in the rear corners.

Ya have to be an acrobat to get into my bed with the gate down.

Here is just a note for you 1500 guys that have the "whaletail" gate cap:

If you have a cap or tonneau cover that won't fit or close OVER the top of the

whaletail cap (because it sticks up) and want to remove it for the clearance

be reminded that most aftermarket flat gate caps that are sold at the big box

parts stores are shorter on the bottom and will NOT cover the bolt holes in

the rear of the tailgate ! They will be exposed.......................

So if you want a flat cap to cover the bolt holes and the swiss cheese holes

in the top of the tailgate you have to get a 2500 flat gate cap from your local

GM dealer. They are longer and cover the bolt holes!
