I have a 2006 2500WT with 6.0L 4x4 auto. When I filled the truck up last night and reset my mileage, I noticed that the engine hour meter was reset or rolled to 1.4 hours. The truck odometer is 51849. No work has been done on the truck, no accessories added, nothing added or nothing noticeably wrong. ???

I have seen similar stuff. Some say the hours are like miles and should not reset.

Dealer gave me a line of BS that I did not beleive.

I had the same thing happen on my burb. I held down the enter key on the steering wheel and the total engine hours was reset. I haven't been able to get it to repeat again, and the dealership said not possible. I also reset my engine oil life thing by the same method and I dont think thats supposed to happen either. I want to know my real engine hours dangit.

thought I would pass along some info.found a bulletin for this problem.IPC Engine Hour Meter Resets - keywords cluster DIC display hour meter intermittent start up #PIT4368A - (05/29/2007)2003-2007 Chevrolet Silverado Classic

2003-2007 GMC Sierra ClassicSome owners may comment of the ipc engine hour meter resetting. This concern may be very intermittent and normally occurs at key up and/or start up.

GM Engineering is aware of this concern and working on a correction. At this time there has been varying success repairing this concern with the following information:

 1.
Check the battery/s with the Midtronic's battery tester and also perform a load test using a Vat40 or similar load tester to make sure the battery/s are in good condition. We have found in some cases a weak battery could cause this concern, this step is very important on vehicles with the 6.6L Diesel Engine where both batteries are used for cranking the engine.
Check the battery cables and make sure all connections are clean and tight.
Check the IPC powers and grounds (G200, G203, G100, G110 and the braided ground strap between the engine and cowl G104 and G107) connections and make sure they are clean and tight.
 2. If the IPC has not been replaced, replace the IPC.

Hey guys, I called my local dealer today and he said that he has never herd of this happening. He did ask me was the hours adding up from the unexplained reset and I said sure. He also said that since it was counting now not to worry about it. But what about my total engine hours?

exactly my thoughts. I also got curious and called the dealer and they said the same thing, never heard of it. The TSB makes it sound like an intermittent thing, but it is not on mine it started back to zero. I also tried to reset it again just for grins and no can do on the life hour meter. I wonder if they can pull it off. I wouldn't think the data would be saved in the actual display/IPC but could be wrong.

Also, is the oil life meter supposed to reset when you hold down the enter key? I thought you had to go through the whole key and accelerator sequence?

Thanks, Jared

I have noticed since mine reset about 2 weeks ago that I did not get my low fuel warning notice on the read-out screen, nor low washerfluid notice.

I'll be danged if I am going to spend to have the cluster replaced.

I would check to see if there are any recalls for your specific year and model on the IPC. I have a 2004 2500HD and there is a campaign # 07187B (for 2003 - 2004) that actually extends the warranty on the IPC due to numerous problems. This basically houses a computer and when I had mine replaced it required programming of the VIN, mileage, & hours. In this case the warranty is only extended to 70K miles. Good Luck.

All 2003-2004 Chevy Silverado Instument Panel Clusters are now covered for 7 years, 70K miles. I just had mine replaced today at no cost for a faulty oil pressure guage. HOWEVER, the new cluster reads 3000 engine hours when the old cluster was at 912. They told me to forget it or else they would have to order another IPC. It only took 24 hours for the part to arrive and 25 minutes for the change out. No muss, no fuss.

Is your mileage correct? That's all I'd be concerned about.
