  2. Thanks for the report. Interesting that for every fill the actual mpg was better than the dic mileage.
  3. You are correct that 3.73 isn't available on 1500 sierra. Looks like it's not available on the trail boss (ie 2" factory lift) chev's either.
  4. Yes, I'm fully aware of where the 6.0 is installed. Question is, does the 6.6 gas equipped 2500 mileage like a 1500 5.3/6.2 (and 2500 6.6 dmax) or does it get mileage like a 2500 6.0L? (or somewhere in between) Everyone blames the 6.0's mileage on the weight of the 2500. I get that and understand....but the dmax 2500's is in the same chassis as the 6.0, but (in my type of use) gets mileage similar to the 1500 5.3/6.2. 6.0L, or now the 6.6L gas, in a HD is still the right truck/powertrain for many. I'm definitely curious to hear more about the real world impact of the changes to the HD gasser.
  5. Sounds like it might be overusing, but even if it is, why would you haul def in the bed? It's available anyplace you can buy fuel and also at any autoparts store or department store with an auto section.
  6. If fuel costs are a concern, be sure to understand the regular vs diesel pricing in the area the truck will live and work. Today, Gas buddy shows that in your location (Ft McMurray) they are priced pretty much the same. (Here, recently, many locations have been 5 or 6% cheaper for diesel. Typically, over the last few years, diesel has been 5 to 15% more than regular gas ) Much different than in some areas, where diesel cost is (in some cases significantly) more than regular. I keep reading about 'significantly' higher diesel maintenance costs -- but that hasn't been my experience. Compared to to fuel and finance costs on a new truck, maintenance costs aren't even on the radar. Everyone I know suggests that a 1500 with a 5.3 or 6.2 will get significantly better mileage than a 6.0, when doing similar daily driver duties. After running dmaxes for 10 years (LLY, LMM and LML) requirements changed and I tried running 1500's. Doing the same duties, I found that doing the same (mostly daily driver) work, the 1500's gave me about 10% better (20 usmpg, instead of 17.5 usmpg). I'm back in a 2500 diesel, not because of fuel but because I prefer the way they drive. I think the diesel gave better mileage towing, but don't have enough direct (same trailer, same load, same trip) comparisons to quote numbers. Unless the 6.6 gas is significantly better on fuel than the 6.0, I'm not buying the arguments that the gas and diesel 6.6's will give the same mileage. Is the 6.6 gas the right engine for lots of applications/lots of owners -- absolutely.
  7. For 2021... wired AA and CP for lower trim audio and wireless AA/CP for higher trim audio units (at least the HD's; presumably the 1500's as well when the info is released) The 201 SUV info doesn't (yet?) indicate if they have wired or wireless or some combo base on audio unit version
  8. Any add-on accessories? Dash cam? Device plugged into OBD port? Even if door left open it should have gone into battery protection mode. Battery Power Protection This feature shuts off the dome and reading lamps, if they are left on for more than 10 minutes after the ignition is turned off. The cargo lamp shuts off after 20 minutes. This prevents the battery from running down. Exterior Lighting Battery Saver The exterior lamps turn off about 10 minutes after the ignition is turned off, if the parking lamps or headlamps have been manually left on. This protects against draining the battery. To restart the 10-minute timer, turn the exterior lamp control to the 0 position and then back to the 'park light' or 'headlight' position. To keep the lamps on for more than 10 minutes, the ignition must be on or in ACC/ACCESSORY. It's possible one of the batteries is/was/went bad. When a battery is bad, the good one will try and charge the bad one -- and can result in two dead ones. Could also be a stuck relay not disconnecting power the way it was commanded. Let us know what they find.
  9. Are you in P or R or N? First 2 modes should give cargo light (CHMSL) on. Do any of the modes work? If the vehicle is in P (Park), R (Reverse), or N (Neutral) the Cargo Lamp Switch causes the lights to cycle through the following states for each button press: - Initial Press: - CHMSL/Cargo Bed Lights - On - Cargo Mirror Lights - On - Cargo Switch Indicator (if equipped) - On - Next Press: (if with in 5 seconds of the previous button press): - CHMSL/Cargo Bed Lights - On - Cargo Mirror Lights - Off - Cargo Switch Indicator (if equipped) - On - Next Press: - CHMSL/Cargo Bed Lights - Off - Cargo Mirror Lights - Off - Cargo Switch Indicator (if equipped) - Off If the High mounted cargo lamp (or the 3rd brake light) is burned out, the manual has instructions for changing (pg 369 for '20 Sierra)
  10. Lots of threads on the other diesel forums about earlier version dmax trucks having 'code' issues with K&N.
  11. Intellibeam (TQ5) is part of the optional Safety Package 2 (PDJ) on the 2020 HC (and LTZ) 3500.
  12. What does it matter if it's in 10th? By definition, overdrive transmissions are in 'direct' anyway. Transmission: 10-speed 10LXX 8-speed 8LXX Gear ratios (:1) First: 4.70 4.56 Second: 2.99 2.97 Third: 2.15 2.08 Fourth: 1.80 1.69 Fifth: 1.52 1.27 Sixth: 1.28 1.00 Seventh: 1.00 0.85 Eighth: 0.85 0.65 Ninth: 0.69 – Tenth: 0.64 – Reverse: 4.87 3.82 10 speed has THREE overdrives. Of course if taller tires than the factory offerings are a consideration....
  13. Another method, if you don't have the build sheet (which ANY dealer can run for you if they are given the VIN number). Download a QR code reader phone app and take a shot of the (QR square) on the silver/black sticker at the bottom of the door post. QR code will give a bunch of, but not all, the build codes for the vehicle (typically the ones most likely needed for service/repair part purposes) Then look for - GU5 Rear axle, 3.23 ratio GU6 Rear axle, 3.42 ratio GT4 Rear axle, 3.73 ratio 1 - Included and only available with (BD1) Custom Max Trailering Package. 2 - Included and only available with (B4U) Diesel Off-Road Package. BD1 is available on custom only B4U is available on LT and RST only Both include/require a bunch of other things in order to get the 3.73.
  14. You're now subject to the whims of the railroad.... ....and the trucking industry that gets it from the railyard to the dealer...
  15. This guy thinks 1500 gets it for 2021 model year and HD's for 2022 model year. https://gmauthority.com/blog/2020/06/2021-silverado-interior-to-gain-center-console-from-new-tahoe-suburban-exclusive/ We should know soon!
  16. Thanks for posting! Any idea how much def is in the tank from the factory? I'm assuming the 2.5 gal added at pdi doesn't 'fill the tank'?
  17. Go to a dealer and order the correct parts, if you want it to look and be 'stock'. Trucks shipped to front plate locations have different pieces in that area. Should be a no cut and no drill installation. (The kit is a 'forced' option code on trucks that are ordered for delivery in front license-plate-states.)
  18. Dealer should be doing the PDI they are getting paid for.
  19. Didn't show up in the 2021 HD Order guide... (of course it could still appear in an order guide update)
  20. LD only. There are lots of threads about this. And everyone here knows what they cost.
  21. 3. Block heater cord?
  22. I agree the list seems odd. My understanding is the additive packages get added at the fuel terminal, not at the refinery. Fuel in pipeline from refinery can end up at multiple fuel terminals. Fuel at terminals can be distributed to multiple 'brands'. Each 'brand' can then have it's specific additive package.
  23. I haven't been paying attention to Top Tier' branding ( For the same reason you mention -- availability isn't widespread, the 'premium brands' don't seem to have jumped on the Top Tier Diesel thing.) I never buy fuel from 'discounters' As others pointed out, the fuel often comes from the same terminal. The brands add there own additive package, which is one of the reasons 'premium' brands are sometimes slightly more expensive. I also source from larger volume locations. Just not large volume 'discounters'.
  24. GM's position on this, from the 3.0L supplement. Basically, if you are buying quality fuel, it already has the proper additives. cut and paste from 3.0L supplement: TOP TIER Detergent Diesel is highly recommended for use with your vehicle. If your area does not have TOP TIER Detergent Diesel, GM recommends the use of ACDelco Diesel Fuel Conditioner. This will help maintain optimal engine performance. GM does not recommend other aftermarket diesel additives. If low-quality diesel is used for refueling, GM recommends adding ACDelco Fuel System Treatment Plus-Diesel to help clean engine deposits. This is available only at your GM dealer. end cut and paste fwiw, about 12 or so years running 6.6 dmaxes; LLY, LMM, LML and now L5P I don't use additives. I'm fussy about where I source fuel. GM 6.6L supplement has similar message as the 3.0L
  25. Bad hood switch can also be a cause of 'remote start won't work'.
