3.08 Rear Axle To Be Standard?

as long as its combined with the 6spd trans there shouldnt be a problem.

Off the line, 3.42s in the 6pd are equivalent to 4.56s with a 4sp (4.50 to be exact).

So the 3.08s will be like 3.73s with the 4spd off the line, but will have an awesome low cruise RPM on the highway that'll yield some sweet mpg's.... not a bad move IMO, especially for people who don't tow a lot.

I guess towing was the thing that concerned me when I saw it. I wonder if the 3.42 will be an option for those of us who need to tow on occasion, and prefer the steeper gearing? I'd have to think on it a bit more to decide how it might perform with a 7k lb load.

Just checked the 2010 ordering guide, and the the 3.42 will be available as an option with the "heavy duty cooling pkg". Good deal...

With the six speed and Pulse Width Modulation on the torque converter, those gears will be fine for average driving. And, taller gears make for a stronger rearend.

Im sure that the towing packages will have 3.42 or 3.73 gears..... "standard" doesnt mean "only".

I really kind of doubt the factory will mate 3.73s to the 6 speed transmission.... that gearing would almost be way TOO tall for most people's needs....

3.73s are already an option with the 6sp this year.

I think you mean short. Small number, tall gears. Big number, short gears.

No such thing as too short IMO. Isn't that six speed a double overdrive?

6.0, 6-speed, 3.73's are standard on the 2500 HD (with 4.10's being optional).
