Factory service manual FTW.

I have the Helm FSM and like it. Took a little while to get used to it's ways, but now it's nice.

 

On the flip side, I have a FSM for my mom's Jeep, I hate that service manual.

Where do you buy that, at the dealer?

I prefer the factory manual, when it was the paper version.

I have the disk for the factory electronic manual but it stops at 2004 or 2005. That covers my '98 and '03.

Don't know what I'll do for my '08.

 

I wouldn't use a Haynes to change the oil.

 

Since I've worked on mechanical machines for 30+ years, I'm partial to the factory manuals.

Complete Helm set here. A little expensive but it is fantastic.

You can actually buy eSI from Helm on DVD.... of course the DVD has all factory service manuals for ALL of GM's cars and light trucks for several years ('98-08 I believe) and it costs $400. I think I may actually go that route once I can get an updated DVD that goes through 09 models. Buying manuals for just my own two trucks would total $300, and since I also work on other vehicles for other people the info could be handy to have available.

Nope, I had access as an employee but before my access was terminated, I got a copy of the one that goes to 2005 and then proceeded to download as much information from the server before my access was revoked. I have some information for the 2006-2008 vehicles...if you want access...you will have to pay for it:

I just won a bid for one as well. I'll post here when I see what it is. Some kind of aftermarket conglomeration, not the actual factory manual, I don't believe. Figured for the price, I might as well check it out. The seller lists lots of other makes/ models.

I like the Helms manuals for my GTO, but they were written by Austrailians. I'm still looking for the propeller shaft on my car It also has a few important mistakes. One will cause you to over-fill the manual transmission, and the other will cause you to snap off the differential carrier mount bolts. Y'know...nothing big

 

I'll need a set for the truck...will probably go with the OEMs. I've thought about the computerized ones, but meh. Call me old school. I like to drag a book out there where I can sit it next to me, get it all greazy and such. Makes it look like I've actually done something.
