Hitch Seems Too Loose For Comfort

I just bought a used 06 Sierra 1500. It came with the receiver but needed the hitch so i bought a 2" hitch for it. When inserted into the receiver i can wiggle it side to side and up and down a bit. Too much for comfort. I read on this forum that the stock receiver is a little bit larger than it should be. It's definitely the 2" receiver and not the 2.5" one that's on the hd models.

Is there a sleeve that I'm missing or one i can buy for it?

On my 08 the receiver wiggles a bit from side to side and up and down. Don't think it's to much to worry about. I have pulled alot with it like that.

Yeah it's not that. Mine is def the 2"

The side to side wiggle room is what bugs me. I'd have to check but at the ball it seems like i can wiggle it 0.25" to .5" side to side. More than I'm used to. Not sure how normal that is

That's why God invented Duct-Tape :wtf:

You could get some different thicknesses of sheet metal or aluminum and slide them on either side of the hitch until its more snug. drill a hole through it where the pin goes and it wont slide out.

My 06 is kinda loose also but no more than any other hitch I had.

I've used shims in the past and currently use a bolt that I install that tightens it up so there is no movement at all...I use that on my smaller trailer that is about 2,800 loaded...works great. On my larger trailer that weighs over 8,000 lbs. loaded I do not anything as it really doesn't move at that point.

Here's a link to some simple remedies you might wanna look at, they are the 8th and 9th item down...CLICK HERE

what brand drawbar did you buy? I've seen cheap chineese brands (Harbor Freight for example) fit loose compared to a quality one like Reese or DrawTight

Another good point!

Buy a good quality name brand insert. Reese makes a good unit that is inexpensive. I've even gone to the trouble to indent the sides of the receiver hitch's square tubing with a large punch and a hammer to make mine have less wiggle room on a couple of trucks. I don't like the rattling back and forth bit either.

I have never used one of the cheap hitches, but poor Chinese manufacturing processes could result in a really loose fitting hitch.

My regular hitch is stainless steel. My equalizer WD hitch is so heavy it can't move much.

Mine also has a little wiggle , maybe 1/8" on each side if that even..... but i personally think it better that real tight, otherwise whatever you have in there be a ball / hook / bikcarrier, theres allows a chance it can get stuck... Just look up "stuck hitch on youtube"
