Stop My Seat From Crushing Me

Recommended Posts

Welcome aboard Chris

I could be wrong on this and someone will correct me. When you pull the key out (and the seat moves you up), move the seat back to where you want it to stop. Then push and hold the 'exit seat' button above the 1 and 2 buttons located on the door panel until it beeps at you. To confirm it worked, put the key in (seat should move back up) and then pull the key out again and it should move back. Hope this helps.

In my dad's 03' duramax, it seems to periodically lose the seat programming and will jam you up to the steering wheel when you put the key in. I think it messes up the exit feature too. Just something he's learned to live with I guess.

so i have a 04 z71 and everytime i take the key out my seat pushes me right to the wheel so how do i program the seat to go back when i take the key out

Hahaha, remember the movie "Christine"? The car crushes the garage owner by ratcheting the seat against the steering wheel and then poisons him with carbon monoxide gas. Could be your truck is getting possessed too?

wow, I'm surprised that's even a feature. It sounds pretty unsafe even if it works correctly. Why would you need the seat moved up when you take the key out anyway?

I have memory seat settings in my Yukon, but it only moves them if you push one of the preset buttons on the door, not when you insert or remove the key.

It's called "Exit Seating", it's not meant to move the seat forward when you take the key out, it's meant to move the seat back for easier exit. It then moves the seat back to the normal position when you unlock the doors for entry.

No owners manual for you either?

No owners manual for you either?

Yes I have the owners manual. I've read through it and have used it to program the door locks and to figure out how to reset the oil life monitor. I've never seen this listed in the manual. My father-in-law is the original owner and I bought it from him a few years back.

So is this an option that's on every model?

....or do you just think you know everything?

Wow! You're just full of helpful advice aren't you?!?!?

Starrman - As stated above, this feature is called exir seating. My wife's 03 has the same feature. I sinply turned it off so the seat stays in the same position when you remove the key.

I don't have "EXIT SEATING"

Just to make sure I just got done looking in the manual and there is no mention of this.

I do have Power Seats with Heat and the drivers has 2 Memory settings, but no "Exit Seating". Hell my front seats are almost all the way back anyway, and if they went back further to exit I'd be having to go around the pillar between the front and rear doors to get out.

My point in my last post was that it may be possible that not all trucks/suvs have that option, so no matter how much I looked in the manual it wouldn't have done any good.

From the owners manual

If your vehicle has this feature, then the controls for the memory function are located on the driver's door.

These buttons are used to program and recall memory settings for the driver's seat, throttle and brake pedals, both the driver's and passenger's outside mirror, and the radio station presets. The settings for these features can be personalized for both driver 1 and driver 2. Driver 1 or driver 2 corresponds to the memory buttons labeled 1and 2 on the driver's door.

To store your memory seat, throttle and brake pedals, mirrors and radio presets, do the following:

Adjust the driver's seat (including the seatback recliner, lumbar, and side wing area), throttle and brake pedals, both of the outside mirrors, and the radio station presets to your preference.

Press and hold the 1 or 2 (for driver 1or 2) button of the memory control for three seconds. A double chime will sound to let you know that the position has been stored.

To repeat the procedure for a second driver, follow the preceding steps, but press the other numbered memory control button.

Each time button 1 or 2 is pressed and released while the vehicle is in PARK (P), a single chime will sound and the memory position will be recalled.

If you use the unlock button on the remote keyless entry transmitter to enter your vehicle, the preset driver's seat, throttle and brake pedal, mirror positions and the radio station presets will be recalled if programmed to do so through the Driver Information Center (DIC). The numbers on the back of the transmitters, 1 or 2, correspond to the numbers on the memory controls.

The seat, throttle and brake pedals and mirror positions can also be recalled when placing the key in the ignition if programmed to do so through the Driver Information Center (DIC).

To stop recall movement of the memory seat feature at any time, press one of the memory buttons or power seat controls.

Easy Exit Seat

The controls for this memory function are located on the driver's door.

This button is used to program and recall the desired driver's seat position when exiting/entering the vehicle. The seat position, can be personalized for both driver 1 and driver 2.

To store the seat exit position for driver 1 or 2, do the following:

Select the desired driver number by pressing and releasing the 1 or 2 button. The seat will move to the stored memory position.

Adjust the seat to the desired exit position.

Press and hold the exit button of the memory control for three seconds. A double chime will sound to let you know that the position has been stored for the identified driver (1 or 2).

To use the seat exit position, do one of the following:

• Press the exit button on the memory control.

Or, if this feature is enabled (active) in the DIC, then removing the key from the ignition will cause the seat to move to the exit position.

Personalization Button

You can program certain features to a preferred setting for up to two people. Press the personalization button to scroll through the following personalization features. All of the personalization options may not be available on your vehicle. only the options available will be displayed on your DIC.

If your vehicle is not equipped with the DIC steering wheel buttons you will not have any of these personalization options except for DISPLAY LANGUAGE. See DISPLAY LANGUAGE later in this section for more information.

My appologies, if I knew it all I would have remembered that 01 Yukon's did not have the easy exit feature.

To your original post it isn't designed to move forward, the system is designed to move the seat back for easy exit if the customer programs it correctly. The easy exit feature can be turned off if you have it.
