Some New Sound...

Recommended Posts

Now, before anyone asks, I have fuly tested the functions of the "search" button. And...well...I can't resist.

What I have: 2004 GMC Sierra 2500hd Reg. Cab, with the 6.0.

What mufflers I am Eyeing: Flowmaster 530513: http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/shop/ind...amp;orig=530513

Flo-Pro 2505 and 2506: http://www.flopro.com/FP2500oval.htm

- I have never truly been able to find any sound clips of either of the three.

- I plan to do the install myself, which makes me weary about Flo-Pro. (muffler shops are the only place to find them?)

-Does anyone else have any suggestions? Experiences?

Thanks very much

I have 40 Delta Flow Masters on my 2001 2500 HD. Installed when new and still on at 145,000. i love the sound but probably not for the timid as they do bark. The engine really gives the big block sound that it is. Can hear going down the highway so not only on acceleration.

check out the aero muffler. I just installed one on my 09 6.2 and it sounds like nothing else out there. Not to mention noticable performance gains. I did however leave the stock resonator on the system to keep it from being stupid loud. It has a really nice deep tone and if you put your foot in it, it sounds crazy

man save yourself the time and long term money and install something good. flowmaster just does not have the quality as magnaflow does. i had flow masters on a 2002 and they sounded alright for a few months, they started too rust. after one year the muffled was F**KED. put a magnaflow on and it sounded amazing for 3 years and DIDNT rust. now thats quality. this is the system i have on my 2006 1500hd 6.0

it sounds wicked tough...and after a year. aaaaaand it still looks shiny!!!...do that with a flowmaster

The flowmaster 530513 is a good muffler. I had one. There is some interior resonance and anybody will hear you common. I had it onmy last dually with the 7.4L and it seemed to wake it up.

Flowmaster just lost me as a customer also because mine rotted out in about 3 years/20,000 miles. YEah I am in the NE snow area, but I have alot of friends to compare to. I had the flowmaster bigblock series muffler (not sure the part #) dual in/ dual out. Sounded good, but that's it. A buddy of mine had Flow Pro duals on his and hated it. Sounded like stock. Then installed Thrush for like $20/muffler! Sounds good too, but maybe too cheap to last??

With all that being said and after alot of investigations, I am going with a set of cat back MBRP T-409 stainless duals, rear side exit for about $450. MBRP is huge in the diesel market and starting to make a name in the gasser side also. Mine should be here Monday and I hope to have it on soon after. Check in to them also. Hard to beat less than 500 for stainless, and the reviews are good. I have a post asking about them in the "fullsize" section here, just because it would get more looks.

Ok, got the stainless MBRP kit today and I am totally impressed with the quality and how easy it went on. everything fit perfect, even to the point where the extra hangers I needed to install fell right on holes that were already in the frame. Once my old exhaust was off, it only took me about 45 minutes to install (on a lift). It looks awesome, too.

As far as sound, it about equals what my Flowmaster did when new. Quieter than I expected actually. Seems to sound good at speed also, but I was by myself and did not have anyone to drive it for a fly-by for me! I can only imagine it will open up some and get louder, too. It is 2 seperate mufflers, true duals exiting behind each rear wheel, stainless tips included. And yes, I highly recommend this setup!

If you want a quality muffler set-up check out the Corsa system. Yeah, they are pricey, about $900 retail, but if you keep checking eBay and Craigslist you can find yourself a set-up less then $400. I found one $250 complete. Just keep checking.

This muffler is quiet at cruise and really comes alive at wide open throttle. If you do any towing with a lot a grades you might want to go with the Touring muffler instead of the Sport. There is absolutely no drone just volume. The sport muffler won't drive you nutty like a flowmaster will, but it will let you know it's there when you tow up a grade.
