1500 Spring Replacement With Hd Or 2500 Springs?

I have an 06 1500 pickup. While the ride is soft, it is too soft as the rearend will bottom out at times. I do pull both gooseneck and bumper pull trailers on occasion but the truck will bottom without hauling anything on occasion. I'm considering replacing the springs with those from a 2500. Has anyone done this or have a better suggestion for beefing up the springs? I don't mind a slightly stiffer ride in exchange for better hauling capability.

I would use airbags. They will give you the normal ride while unloaded and then keep the truck level when loaded. Firestone makes some and so does air ride.

airbags +4

I installed a kit made by Hellwig, using Continental bags. I needed to level the truck out when I tow my other car on the trailer which is no problem now. The added benefit is that the truck does ride better with about 7-10 psi in the bags, even unloaded.

Installation was pretty straight forward, taking less than a couple of hours total. If I had to do it again, probably less than 30 min per side.

One suggestion, not matter what they say in the instructions, use some teflon thread seal tape on the threaded air fittings. Until I did that, they would leak down overnight. Since then - no problem.

wait a minute on the airbags, he is saying that he is bottoming out while not hauling anything! This sounds like somthing is wrong with the leafs, I have had a lot of weight in my truck and heavy trailers but I am certain that I have NEVER bottomed out with nothing in the bed! even while being off road.

I am not saying no to the airbags infact I would probably get them myself but I think you have a problem with the springs. you should be able to put a lot of weight in the bed and not bottom out. I can tell you that 1000lbs in the bed makes mine sit level, I have everthing stock.

Something is not right here as a stock truck should never bottom out unloaded. Did you buy the truck new or used if you bought it used then the other owner may have had the truck lowered and put a small leaf pack in the rear to lower the back of the truck or put soft ride springs in the rear, both of these have a low carrying weight.
