Differential Fluid Change Interval

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have a 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 Extracab 1/2 ton truck. In studying the owner's manual I was unable to determine the service interval for changing the front and rear differential fluid. I did note that synthetic is recommended for the rear.

How often should I have the differential fluids serviced?

Don't forget the transfer case.

GM recommends a change on the TC at 50k minimum. You could use the same interval for the diffs. I'd use a bit more conservative interval if you're really using your truck like many get used. You know, hauling heavy loads, trailering for long distances, or 4 wheeling

I go 2 years or about 30k on mine. I pull trailers on the highway regularly.

Amsoil recommends 50k on their fluid for severe service
