2010 Sierra Slt Help

I am about to order a truck and am leaning towards the 6.2. If I order the max towing package it only costs 1300 CAN $. To get the 6.2 without max tow pkg cost over 1600. I don't really need max towing as my 5.3 crew cab pulls everything I need to without any problems.

My questions are ... will the max trailering pkg hurt my milage? How will the ride be compared to my current 2007 Z71? What other options do you guys suggest?

P.S. - the only reason I'm looking at the 6.2 is because my present 5.3 is consuming oil ( I think because of the afm). I will keep this truck for a long while as well.

Thanks for any help any input. This is a very informative site.

You know the 6.2 will be a gas monster and drink it up like it's nothing, that's something else to consider; since you said you don't need the power....

That's a good point. I don't know if I should take another chance on the 5.3 or not. I had 3 previous without afm and none used a drop of oil.

Actually this is incorrect. Many guys with the 6.2 aren't seeing more than 1-2 mpg less than the guys running the 5.3. The difference in fuel mileage isn't enough to be a deciding factor IMO. It's a truck...not a Prius.

FWIW, this is my second 5.3 with AFM and haven't had any oil consumption issues yet. Maybe there is something wrong with the one in your current truck.

I would take your present 5.3L in and have them fix it under warranty, if it is still covered. More then likely it has a problem in which they can fix with the recently released lifters.

In some cases the 6.2 gets the same if not better fuel economy then the 5.3. Go with the 6.2 and put your AFM fears behind you since there is none of that garbage on the 6.2

I agree 6.2 is great!

I currently am waiting for my 6.2 to show up. I ordered the Max Trailer package, not for the pulling but acceleration because of the 3.73 gearing.

Will it hurt mileage...... conservatively driven I doubt it. I have driven both the 3.42 and the 3.73 geared trucks. You will cruise at about 1800 rpm with the 3.73's at around 100 km/hr. I have an 09 3/4 ton with a 6.0 litre and 6L90E with 3.73's. Plus the truck I test drove before ordering mine did that. Real world mileage on my 3/4 ton in imperial gallons is right around 15mpg. That is including the fact I have close to 2000 lbs of weight on the truck and a roof rack above my canopy. An unladen half ton should manage 20 mpg ( imperial guys, not Us gallons) fairly easily. I guess I will know for sure soon enough. Doesn't seem many guys have the NHT 6.2 trucks on here so it's pretty hard to get real mileage numbers. The 3.42 geared guys claim around 16 or 17 mpg highway US which translate to 20-21 mpg Canadian ( roughly). Not bad for an over 400 hp truck.

However...... as mentioned, what is stopping you from getting yours fixed? I shouldn't ask as I sold my last truck out of frustration and disgust so I can understand if you want to ditch it.

Ride will be comparable to the 07. I didn't feel any difference from truck to truck really.

This claim is false (at least with mine)

My 2010 CC 6.2 gets better milage than my 2000 ext cab 5.3. It gets slightly (1-2mpg) less milage than my 2wd 5.3 Tahoe. I cant complain I am pretty happy with the milage.

As far as the additional cost with the 6.2 when I bought mine it was a $1950 add on to the powerpack (5.3) package HOWEVER the day the truck was delievered gm sent over a new invoice to the dealer and the 6.2 ended up being a $0 option upgrade for me. I have no idea why this happened but I was very happy when the salesman mentioned this :fume:

Thanks for the replies guys. As for having the truck fixed...I've been trying for a year. The dealership I first brought it to tried to tell me that a litre of oil in 2500km was normal/acceptable consumption to which I said I don't think so. This is my forth GM/Chevy truck. After me telling them that was unacceptable they finally admitted that there was a known problem that I potentially had and put me on an "oil consumption study". I had to keep track of my oil level at every fill up and bring it in every time it was low.

Wouldn't you know it... that dealership was one of the ones that got the axe. I brought printed records of the study from first dealership to another GM dealership but they told me they had to start a new study of their own. What a crock.

My lease is up in April and needless to say I will not be buying this otherwise perfect truck (0 other issues). I even entertained the idea of a Ford but hate how weak their engine feels. The 5.3 has plenty of power to me, it's just this oil issue that has me leaning towards the 6.2.

Can you still get a 5.3 with 3.73s? This would be a viable route. If this cap and tax hits, our gas will climb by 1-1.50 and each mpg maybe be critical to ones budget..

No, 3.42's are the deepest that can now be had for the 5.3.....
