Need A New Engine Any Suggestions?

My father-in-law's Denali has oil in the coolant and coolant in the oil. Truck has about 200k on it. Any suggestions on where to get an engine? He is in the DFW area. He has a local shop that he has dealt with for years and they will do the install. My feeling is to get a GM replacement engine vs. using a rebuilt from an aftermarket supplier. Any thoughts? Also any thoughts on other work to be done while the engine is out?

My buddy Smokey has always told me GM replacement motors are a ton better than local shop rebuilds and so far he's been right everytime. Not only that but you will get a better warranty from GM.

I went the other route many times in the last 15 years....never again. I am leaving this one bone stock and if it ever tanks a new GM motor will go in.

Adding to what kelly said....

The GM replacement engine comes with a 3 year 36K warranty...and they're on par for price with the local rebuild with usually a 1 year warranty.

My uncle got a 5.7 from Advance when he replaced his engine in his 97 Silverado. He complains about the lifters making noise and a few other small things. Sounds to me like they use cheap parts, and I wouldn't buy one from there. When the Fiancé needs a new engine in her car Im going to order a GM Replacement one from Summit Racing.

Like I said...the 3 year 36K warranty does it for me...and its honored at the dealership...you don't have to call the manufacturer and get them to recommend you a garage to get it fixed at...plus they're warranties are only for a year or 12K.

Actually a new GM-Goodwrench engine has a 3 year 100k warranty
