2009 Silverado Brake Squeal

My 2009 Sivlerado brakes are squealling the first couple of times I use the brakes in the morning. The dealer says this is normal. Does anyone else have this problem?? Does anyone know if there is a TSB for this??

Mine only squeal a tad when there is some surface rust in the morning. Very rare occurrence though.

Some semi-metallic pads aren't as much semi as you'd like, so they squeal more Give them some time to wear in.

Same problem here. I fixed it for awhile but pulling the drums off and scuffed them up, but it came back a couple months later.

I had lots of brake noise at 3000 miles, took it to the dealer. IMO a brand new truck should have no issues regardless if it is on wear and tear parts. I must have taken it in like five different times for that same issue, finally fed up I fixed it myself. Replaced the front rotors and installed ceramic brake pads, now at 47,000 miles it has not made a squeal once.

Yes. And especially after it rains they are very touchy, like if I even just tap on them the truck comes to halt as if I has slammed on the brakes. But it goes away after a couple of times braking.

My 09 Silverado does the same thing every morning. I have 15,000 miles. I took it to the dealership on Monday and they said there was nothing wrong with brakes. The brakes on my brother's 09 Malibu do the same thing. It must be a Chevy thing.

Dealer cut my rotors and replaced pads at 11k miles to fix this and it came back in about 500 miles.

My 07 does this as well, i think the only difference is that mine does it when i do light braking as in coming to a stop nice and smooth. it almost sounds like a loud whistle. if i stomp on the brakes it bites down hard and stops the truck very fast and quiet. it has done this since 3K miles. Dealer said it was the way i drive or the moisture crystallizing on the drums. in other words he had no idea and said whatever, cause they said, we fixed it and then 50 miles later, there it is again. Im now coming up on the 40K mile mark and an really thinking about replacing the rotors and pads. The sound seems to be coming from my front brakes. my drums in the rear look great

Interestiongly enough, although one of my rotors has a groove in it, the pads never squealed on my truck.

Yep it squeals in the morning only when cold though. Break once or twice and no more squeal... I've learned to deal with it

Disk brakes have a tendancy to be noisey. Some of you may remember Volvo about 30 years ago, their brake noise was unbelievable. I had a Honda motorcycle whose front disk was impossibly noisey after the disk got wet. I actually had to lightly sand the pad to quiet the brake and make the bike useable.

 

My advice: A slight squeak with semi pads the first stop or two in the morning is quite normal and OK for me.

 

Ceramic pads are light duty and were designed to sacrifice braking power for no black dust and quietness. In my opinion, semi metallic pads are a great compromise between all the parameters of brake performance, long life, quietness, cold friction, hot friction and braking power. That is why they are oem.

 

I have installed ceramic pads on friends cars and they were very happy (raybestos) but for my truck, I stay with raybestos semi metallic. Mine are silent, for the record. Heavy duty, trailer towing braking, I believe, is best served by semi metallic, name brand pads.

 

There are websites that test replacement parts for police vehicles. They suggest that Hawk, semi metallic pads provide the best all around performance but for my money, Raybestos, semi pads are great. Checker sells them. Never use their or any store brands.
