Royal Purple Oil Problem

Hey guys, just thought id share an experience i had with the "purple stuff". I usually use mobile one synthetic but i kept hearing this and that about better performance, increase in HP, saves fuel, blah blah blah about ROYAL PURPLE so what the hell i tried it! Last saturday i bought 6 qts. 5w-30 like always and a K&N oil filter and changed the oil like usual. Sunday came along and the truck was acting pretty good, sounded smooth and everything. Monday after work, i cranked it up and my check engine light came on..wtf?..so i kept driving it and noticed my oil pressure gauge wasnt moving and it was on the ground. Took it to autozone to check out what the light had came on for but their comp. couldnt read why the light had came on so they said to take it to the dealer, which is an hour away so i thought maybe later its probly just the oil pressure sensor. Checked the oil when i got home and it had plenty but noticed that the purple stuff wasnt so purple anymore but i wasnt too concerned. Tuesday i was on the road on my way to school and the gauge started going wild and was all over the place so it kinda scared me so i called my mechanic and he said that it was rare for the oil pressure sensor to go out just like that so that maybe the oil hadnt done it good and i needed to change it soon and that hopefully the oil pump hadnt gone out. After class i was on my way to his house and my oil light came on and someting popped up saying "OIL PRESSURE LOW STOP ENGINE" or something similar so i pissed my pants and called him back. He said not to crank it up that maybe the oil pump was out and not giving enough pressure but i insisted that maybe it read that because of the crazy gauge so i cranked it back up and the message wasnt there. About a mile down it popped up again so i pulled over again and he came and we changed the oil. The oil that we took out was darker than black, thinner than water (i know 5w-30 is thin but this was thinner than normal) and a quart short. What happened to the great Royal Purple? The new oil and filter didnt really do much because my gauge is still wild and the check engine light is on so ima have to take it to the dealer to get it checked out and see what the problem was. Ill post again when i find out what the problem was and let yall know how much money ima have to spend thanks to investing and improving my performance on ROYAL PURPLE. They're actually located like 4 miles from my house so i might also stop by and show them their oil after 2 days of use and see what they have to say.

It's good your taking them an actual sample of their oil so they do some testing on it.

Thats odd RP does have a pretty good rep, never heard anything like that before. I'd really like to hear what they end up telling you what happened. I tried RP in my vehicle before my silverado ('08 Lancer) and it worked fine for me, didnt notice anything diff tho. Only reason why I tried it is I found a good price for a case of it online that would get me through a few changes (felt it was too expensive from the auto stores) and I figured I'd give it a shot. But after I used up my RP I just went back to mobil 1. And am currently using it on my 09 Silverado.

Any damage to your vehicle?

sounds like it wrecked something, rp should pay for the damage...the filter may have done it too

Did you see all the RP go into the engine? Was it all good oil? It is quite common for people to drain out the oil from the bottles and replace with used oil or whatever, and take them back for refund. Maybe this happened to you.

Royal purple didn't do that to your truck. You truck would have failed with any oil. Sorry... :uhoh:

I'll side with the last three posters. Sounds like a problem that would have happened regardless. I've used Royal Purple before and it worked great. The only reason I don't use it more often is because it costs an arm and a leg compared to even Mobil1. As for you noticing the oil wasn't as purple when you checked it, RP clearly states that the purple color is temporary. Once it goes in and is run for a bit it looks just like normal oil.

I had a jiffy lube put the wrong oil filter on my truck and three days later it seized up so they put in a new motor. I would highly doubt its the RP,I have been using the stuff for the last 15 + years with out any problems.
