I've been looking around at all the different lift options out there for our trucks. From just cranking to stock keys, to full blow kits and came across something that a tech at cognito brought up. I was talking to him about their 4-6" torsion bar drop and non torsion bar drop full systems and basically a full kit that drops the diff is the way to go if your looking to bring back the geometry to factory specs and ride quality. OK, then we have torsion bar drop vs non-drop basically is pretty explanatory, however the non-drop is about 300 more??? I guess if you want to keep things looking like factory, you gotta pay. ANYWAYS, I basically told him I have the bars cranked up, bs, bs, bs and said this isn't going to be for off road use what so ever, I just want the factory ride back and not have to worry about breaking cv's and bending tie-rods if I'm in the snow and it bites, plus I don't feel like replacing pre-mature failure parts in the future because of how I have it set up. So he acknowledged everything I said and stated that this is the kit for you, (no shit, the same thing will be said by anyone trying to sell it to me) but there's a few more things your going to need. Your going to need to add front shocks (not included), and if you plan on driving it over 20mph your going to need a new drive line, for 500. I quickly responded saying oh please do explain this new drive-line. Well since the differential is dropped a full 4 inches, you will have a very bad vibration over 20mph. So he's basically saying you need a new drive shaft, for the life of me, i cannot figure out why. I've have 6" +++ on a jeep tj, 8 on a ranger with stock front drive shaft lengths and not one dam vibration issue in 4wd. Note this is a different animal than either of those two, but still.

Basically what I'm asking is, is that a load of horse crap or will the shaft need to be changed out? Anyone running 4-6 inch full system which drops the diff and having vibration issues?

you're not running an SYE on the tj with that much lift?

depending on the truck year and model and the lift type, some people have needed new front driveshafts to eliminate the vibration.

are you ordering locally? ask him if you can return the driveshaft if you dont need it... put the lift on and the stock driveshaft; if its smooth on the highway and during a 4x4 test driving around offroad, then return the other one and get your money back.
no, i'm actually not ordering locally. however, i would just go to the local drive line shop and have them make me one for much less than 500.

I am in the process of putting a CST 8" in my 2004 2500HD and went through this with CST. I do not need to change my front driveshaft, but i have an allison behind an 8.1. If you are talking about the truck in your profile which shows a NV4500 5 speed, that may be why. They say the angle is to severe with the 4L80E, maybe it's the same with the NV4500 because of mounting location height where it sets the tranfercase.

I never brought up that I have the 4500 so he probably assumes i've got the auto. I'm not sure if there is any difference in the two. Can anyone else chime in on this??
