Engine Knocking

My 2007 5.3 knocks when started after the engine is turned off and cooled down, then stops after a few seconds. Does anyone know why this is happening?

Sounds like a rod bearing.

May just be the good ol' piston slap problem? Mines done it for years upon initial startup until the motor has a little heat in it to cause the pistons to expand.

I would say piston slap. A rod bearing rap dosen't usually go away.

Common problem.... Get use to it.. It will never quit... Both of my trucks do it... 99 5.3l and 01 6.0l....

Thanks... just wanted to get some peoples opinions, i figured thats what it was to bevause my 03 did it as well. But i think i will get it checked at the dealer to make sure before the warrenty is gone...
