Better To Dry Steer Or Take Two Swings?

yes i know the lord of random threads has began his tyranny again...so what do you guys prefer and why? when it comes to getting into tight parking spots? my personal choice is to take 2 or more swipes at it(# of swipes depends how stupid i am that day) i figured its easier on the truck to go in throw it in reverse then drive and go back in...i hate dry steering and i'm sure the front suspension does too lol

There are some situations where you just can't avoid dry steering a little bit; just try to do it as little as possible and it should be fine.

+1. And it's safer when one pulls out of the spot. At work (nationwide delivery company) all the drivers are instructed specifically to make sure that backing is NOT your first move out of a parking spot.

I will also go as far as park the extra 100 feet away, where there are a lot of spaces open, or where all the rest of the trucks park around here...we're all pretty smart about it for the most part, and leave an extra spot open between each truck, so the next guy can just swing in.

I think by 'dry steering' he means, turning the steering wheel while the truck is not moving. Hence putting more strain on parts. I see this all the time with people, and you hear the pump whine/shutter. I always have the truck always slightly moving while steering. Same way when i drive tractors here on the farm, unless you have to steer without moving if your in a tight spot.

I always back in everywhere. unless I can pull straight through. But in my case Back IN is the only option.

always back in... dry steer doesn't bother me really but i agree, that i try not to do it. 45psi in the tires helps that though.... less contact patch

I never pull in... I always back in and usually never have to "dry steer"...

 

Trick is to always leave the wheels rolling . If you pull forward to back in, when you are about to crank wheel other way , give it a small amt of power to take the stress off front end...

i use to work iwth a guy who parked across the spaces... Then co workers would always mess with him and park on either side in the spaces the correct way and make it impossible for him to get out
