Mercedes Million K Test With Mobil 1

yeah but there was a guy out there who got a million miles (not km's) on his 2500 Silverado by just running regular dino oil and had no major breakdowns. It was that K&N promotional thing where the guy only used 1 K&N filter and all he had to do was clean the thing a few times. K&N purchased the truck and gave the guy a new one.

Engine design has more to do with life than oils used. A poor design, Chrysler 2.6 liter 6 comes to mind, can not be fixed with any oil. Chevy small blocks and the new ones are well thought out engines, bearing size, cooling, etc.

Yup, my point is that it does not matter if you run expensive Synthetic or regular Quacker State 5W30, all oils in this day and age have to meet certain guidelines and you are probably going to be able to get to 1 million miles with Synthetic or Dyno having very little to do with it.

You can add in the slant 6 chrysler engine in the list of well thought out engines. Unless it rained (or someone spit next to it), you could not kill that engine.

 

They only showed a visual inspection of the engine (and somehow forgot to show the piston/ring combo during teardown). Would have been more impressed if they would have measured the parts for wear. Also would have been more impressive if they did not just run it on a test bed. Do it in real time, with people driving it in all kinds of weather and traffic with real life loads on the car. They spent a fair bit of time showing the valve seat and how little it had "sunk" into the head, that has little to do with the oil, should have shown piston wear instead, that has more to do with oil than valve seat wear does.

Very true, we had a fleet of slant 6 Chrysler motors where I worked when I was in High school and some of those motors had over 400,000 miles with out a rebuild and there was no such thing as Synthetic oil back then. Synthetic oil to me is just a over priced hype of oil and were buying it except for me.

What makes me giggle is the investment some make in synthetics with they "I'm gonna make this truck last forever and keep forever" only to want something new in a few years anyway.

LOL, shaddup, less than two weeks before I traded my Monte Carlo in for my Silverado I spent close to $500 at the DEALER, no less, getting the tranny flushed and fixing a few broken things that annoyed me :lol: Hopefully whoever buys it next will reap the rewards and mebbe I'll get a little good karma back my way.

 

Anyway, regarding the video, did they ever go into specifics about what kind of mileage it was, or did I miss it? Was it all on the rollers? If so, not impressed...IME highway miles keep a car going forever, it's short tripping and days of sitting that deal the death blows.

:happysad: aren't we just the shit talker, they did that test in a controlled enviroment on a machine...in the real world, yes the real world there is alot of variables...i challenge you to do a 13k oil interval and see how it goes

I've done it. I did the Mobil 1 15000mi oil change challenge (although I did 12000) and i put 70,000 miles on the car before I sold it to buy something new. They specified the oil filter and what oil to use.

Not true, I ve done 13-15K with synthetic on all my Benz s... They also take 8.5 quarts of oil which helps keep it cleaner and cooler. These oils have been proven to hold up that long. When will we let that 3000 mile (Old school, which I am) stuff go? :troll:

I really don't see how this is anywhere close to a valid test. Let a few of us drive the shit out of that car for a few weeks a piece; I bet we could show them some wear and tear!
