2010 Radiator Draining?

Recommended Posts

I have a 2010 Silverado and I need to drain the radiator. The tube on the left-bottom side of the radiator is solid inside. It doesn't have a drain valve. How do you drain a 2010? I have never had a truck with no radiator drain before.

X2, my '96 has a drain, but it is almost impossible to get to, so I pulled the lower hose, just have a 5 gallon bucket or 2 handy, and you can do it pretty "mess free if your quick

Just curious, why do you need to drain the radiator on a 2010?

Urg,,,, I have wondered why no drain on the new GM trucks.... Some moron decided the same idea as the TRANS PAN drain............................. I can not put enough periods here ....

Slide down to the parts house by a in line radiator flush port (watch out they sell 5/8 and 3/4 ones)......... install this at the water pump in one of the 5/8 hoses.... I would use the one that is just roll hose... Drop lower hose and refill using upper hose..... Attached a 1/2 inch garden hose to the new port you have added, and route out from the engine bay... Place fresh water, water hose in coolant jug turn on water crank engine allow to idle for a period no less than 1 hour. Ample time to get the crud out....

Then Pull Lower hose off again.. This will allow you enough room to put antifreeze back in the system... As I know I am one few people that use distilled water. (WHICH YOU ALL SHOULD BE DOING.) I pull the drain plugs from the block after the lower hose..... Then refill with a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and distilled water.

P.S. Shame shame shame shame on the engineer or person who removed my radiator flush valve..... grrrrrrrrrrrr :cheers::mad::banghead::mad::cheers::mad::devil:

This ridiculous and secretive deletion of drain plugs, small convenience features, etc. on new vehicles is pathetic. Where does GM intend to stop with this crap? And the most insulting part is that they actually reward people who come up with these dumb penny pinching ideas. Pretty soon rear bumpers and spare tires will be optional on 1500 series trucks.

Noticed today at the dealership that the Hybrid Tahoe doesnt have a spare tire. It does have a slime patch kit though

I ordered an inline drain valve for my lower hose from Jegs. I'm going to install it this July when I flush the cooling system. I will post pictures after I get it all put together.

Believe it or not, you can actually get a passenger side keyed lock if you buy a work truck without the power lock system. At first they eliminated those on all trucks, but due to numerous complaints they added back the passenger side lock to work trucks. Similarly, they have eliminated trunk lid locks on virtually all GM vehicles with remote keyless entry. The only way you get a factory external keyed lock for yor trunk lid from GM is if you buy a vehicle like Impala with the police package (which is not available to the general public).
