If I remember right, this video was made by a member on here. Gives a good "real-life" demonstration and a good shot of both tires.

Mine must have been burned out. I couldn't get both tires to break loose on dry pavement! Gravel maybe. Went to an eaton posi lsd and never looked back.

Quick question, does "G80" mean that its a locking rear diff? On my VIN code when I look it up it says G80 and then says AXLE,REAR,POSITRACTION,LIMITED SLIP POSITRACTION L/SLIP R/AXL(G80). Is limited slip and positraction the same as locking diff? Guess Im just confused. Thanks

G80 In your SPECIFIC application is a locking differential. G80 does not mean every vehicle with this code contains the same traction device as your truck.

The confusion comes in because GM calls the limited slip installed in cars a G80. The G80 installed in trucks is a locking diff.

This is the email I got from GM Training on the question of it the rear diff on the Camaro is a locker since the RPO code is "G80" like the trucks G80 locker:

 

"Thank you for your question concerning the all new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. You asked, “Is the limited slip differential a g80 locker? the rpo order code in autobook shows "g80" as the code for the limited slip rear differential.”

 

Although the order code is G80, the Camaro has a Limited Slip Differential. It is not a locking differential like those found on our trucks.

As said earlier G80 means different things in different platforms. On my 99 Z28 I have a G80 which is a Torsen gear driven limited slip. On a 98 Z28 the G80 is an Auburn unit with clutch packs. Our trucks are Eaton units all using the same G80 RPO.

Someone tell me why when I jack my back wheels off the ground in my '10 Silverado with a G80 code rearend the back wheels move in opposite directions, and when I do the same to my same-coded '81 Z28 they move in the same direction (like they should).

Because that's how it works.

 

Read a few posts up... the G80 in your truck is different than the G80 in your car, same code different carriers.
