Z71 Vs Heavy Duty Trailering

Recommended Posts

Dealer says my 2010, yet to be delivered, has z71 pkg not straight 4x4 that I wanted.

Fine, but when I build it on the gm site, z71 bumps out the heavy duty trailering pkg. What? Does the z71 contain everything the heavy duty trailer pkg does?

And what's with 2500's not seeming to have z71 offered, yet the site lets you put it on, and the dealer has found me one??

What do you mean by not straight 4x4? The Z71 (4x4) and reg 4x4 pkg is the same in terms of 4 wheel drive. The Z71 added things like differnt shocks and decals

Z71 also adds off-road skit plates by default....or at least it used to.

Yes, so I was fine with it. But then I built one on the gm website and it automatically deletes the heavy duty trailer pkg. So does that mean it is missing something I need to trailer or does it have it all?

But why is it deleting the heavy duty trailer pkg?

I think he is trying to select the handling/trailing heavy duty suspension package along with the Z71 suspension package. can't have both on the truck.

My truck has the Z85 Handling / Trailering Suspension. It just says 4X4 on the rear fenders. According to the literature the Z85 package is standard on a 2500HD. According to the literature the Z71 package adds off road jounce bumers, skid plates, and Z71 decals on the rear quarters.

How can the the 2500HD's not "seem" to have a Z71 option - - if the site lets you put it on?

It would seem that if the site lets you put it on - then it would seem to have the Z71 option.

I'm confused..... Are you looking at two different sources of information?

BTW - what is your primary purpose for the truck you want?

Z71 and Z85 are 2 distinct suspension options, its either one or the other but not both.

These 2 options are compatible

Z71 Suspension Package, Off-Road

Z82 Trailering equipment, heavy-duty

Z71 n/a available with this option due to this option having heavier springs

Z85 Suspension Package, Handling/Trailering, heavy-duty

Yes, the brochure says no, site allows off road but deletes trailering . . .

It will be hauling horses

z82 is the trailering package, 85 is for handling heavy loads....z71 is just as capable as the 85 when it comes to towing......by the way the 82 is standard with 71 and 85s i think

I do know that Sales Brochures are comprised, printed and distributed way ahead of the model year - so it would seem that information on-line could be far more current that that in any printed brochure...

If jro909 is correct - then towing a horse trailer - you'd be OK going with the Z71 / Z82 package.

Sounds like the Dealer found you the right truck...

I think ordering the Z71 Pkg and H-D Trailering in the U. S. may be different than in Canada. I'm in Virginia, U. S. A.

I ordered a 2010 Chev 2500HD, 6.0L gas, 4WD back in March and found out that the H-D Trailering Pkg was standard with the LTZ package, including the trailer brake controller. I ordered the Z-71 Pkg @ $275- retail and it included the skid plates, as well as, the H-D Off-Road suspension. I wanted a sun-roof and for 2010 only orders with the LTZ pkg could get a sun roof. In 2009, a LT pkg could order a sun roof.

The "build program" on the GM Internet website does not offer the same options as the "build computer" at your GM dealer.
