Cv Boots

My CV boots cracked over the weekend. I noticed grease slung up over the tire well. When I stuck My head inside the well i noticed the both boots on either side have cracked and clamp. I have recently put on a RC 2" lift and was wandering if this may have caused the issue. Also how hard is it to replace the boots and could any damge occur from me driving with my boots cracked. Thanks

With the boots cracked, the grease inside will get out, and with the axle spinning, the grease will litterally be 'thrown-out'.

Will this cause damage, certainly. How long will it take before you have CV joint failure, anyone's guess.

Crap will also get into the joint.

I doubt the lift caused the boot to fail. You would likely have issues with the CV joint first, if anything. Contact the manufacturer of your lift kit and ask if they recommend driveaxle upgrades to accomodate the lift height.

 

If you remove the axle asap, you can replace the boot. It's a messy job but straight forward. You'll have to remove the wheel hub assembly then unbolt the axle from the differential.

Is this covered under my warranty? And if it is would it be wise to take off my leveling kit before I take it in there to get fixed.

Under the Magnuson-Moss act, the dealer is required to prove that your modification solely caused the failure, otherwise they can not refuse warranty coverage.
