Detailing This Weekend

I am going to be detailing my car this weekend and had a few questions. My plan is to clay it first, then polish and finally wax it. After I clay the car, do I need to wash it again before putting the polish on?

As for the polish, what is good polish? I've seen McGuire's ScratchX and SwirlX but I don't know if these are polishes. The only stuff that I have seen at Autozone, Napa, etc that actually says Polish is TurtleWax. I don't think they had the McGuire's polish. Does TurtleWax make a good polish?

As for the wax, is the spray on wax just as good as the liquid or paste or should I just stick with a liquid wax and do it that way?

I always have to wash again after using the clay bar. Also the spray wax, for me, never lasts more than a couple of days. The ones I've used are supposed to be used in between the applications of regular paste or liquid wax. You'll want to use the paste or liquid wax if you've not detailed before.

Scratch/Swirl removers are NOT polishes! There should be no need to rewash between steps, and spray waxes are great for a quick wax after you've laid a nice foundation using a liquid or paste, but it's definately not a suitable alternative.

Here is an AMAZING write up on truckmodcentral. http://www.truckmodcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3879

If possible, I'd use those products listed on there. Or go over to http://www.adamspolishes.com/ . They have some amazing stuff too. Adam's website has some pretty good videos and also on youtube if you go here http://www.youtube.com/user/Junkman2000. He has alot of great videos on many topics of cleaning your car. He is also a huge supporter of adam's products.

Those routes will give you the best results IMO

It depends on the brands of Was/Polishes you use. I use Adams and I do not need to wash between applications. It's a three step process. Just follow the directions and you'll be fine.

****ONE THING TO REMEMBER ABOUT CLAY BARS****

Never use a clay bar dry, some have you use water while other sell a spray but either way never take a dry clay bar to your truck.

Good luck and post pics!

If you have a carquest locally they carry a brand called duragloss (www.duragloss.com). Their stuff is the best stuff that I have found locally. I'm hoping that the weather down here is nice this weekend so I can do my mid-summer detail.
