Well today I was leaving the grocery store and some guy was getting pulled over on the street as I was walking to my truck. It was a motorcycle cop and while the guy was trying to figure out where he was going to pulling over the cop was trying to signal the guy to pull over on the right side of the street, but he pulled into the parking lot and found a spot. I could tell that the cop was pissed so I rolled down my window to listen as I drove by. I couldn't hear everything being said but I heard him yell that he "Wanted him on the road so all the mother *uckers know he's working today."

It's perfectly legal for a person to pull off the road to a safe parking lot. I might have done the same thing if the road was too busy... I also would have his whole conversation on tape (it's legal in Ohio). A recorder is great thing to have in your vehicle whether a cop stops you or you are involved in an accident.

 

Edit: I had nothing to add to "Funny Things You Hear" but would loved to had that conversation you seen on tape... :)

That is interesting. I always thought that the officers would rather have you pull into a place that was much safer for everyone involved. I was stopped by an officer one night about 11:30pm on a 2 lane road, where the county was cracking down on people speeding (it was 35 mph speed limit). I was doing about 38mph according to my GPS, and I couldn't find anywhere to pull over safely when the officer hit the blue lights. I pulled onto the side of the road, and the officer pulls up behind me, then instead of getting out, he says over the loud speaker "move into the parking lot at the Burger King ahead" Then said "I'm hungry".

 

It turns out that it was my best friend from high school, and he knew it was me when I came by him, LOL.

 

 

 

Back when I was motocross racing, one of my friends knew all the officers in a town where he lived (Forest City, NC), or so he thought. He was, and still is, a certified nutcase. He was driving very erratically one night, squealing tires around corners, while coming in the back way to one of the shopping centers there. A female officer pulled him over and asked if she could see his license. He replied "I don't know, can I shoot your gun?" Needless to say she didn't find the humor in it until her backup arrived and told her that she could take the handcuffs off of my buddy, that he was just a clown. Turns out she was new, and he thought she was one of the other female officers that he knew, since she had blinded him with the flashlight and he couldn't see her.

My best friends are in law enforcement so I normally cut them lots of slack. Especially when I've done something wrong. But the two times I've been pulled over by motorcycle officers they've been (0(ksuckers. And I was even being polite with everything "yes sir", "no sir".

 

Seems like they dislike us "four wheelers". Though that guy sounds like he has even deeper issues.

I got pulled over last December for playing with my strobe lights at midnight and as soon as the cop lit me up, I pulled pretty far off the road toward the ditch (I wasn't really concerned with being able to get out..) He tried going the "you're in a lifted truck so you can just do whatever you want, huh" route and I told him I didn't see a need for him to be standing out in traffic. He told me to just drive away and keep the lights off. Pretty cool guy.

For a little clarification I guess, this street is just about a 1/4 mile long and runs right in front of a bunch of condos and apartments and on the back side of a shopping center. It's straight and flat and a fair amount of kids race up and down it. The speed limit is 25 mph and it cuts across 2 streets that both have 40 mph speed limits and bypasses 3 lights.

 

Either way I thought it was funny as hell.

I've had a few folks that I thought were taking me on a parade over the years. I've told a few that they give me the lights for a reason. Generally when the lights go on, the timing has been calculated to give you a chance to see them and pull to a reasonable area. Most people do this without a problem, some will pull a bit farther and onto a side street or into a lot. The few folks I've had that were ridiculous with taking forever to figure out where/when to stop, I told to stop as soon as practical and safe after the lights go on, and if the officer/trooper/deputy wants you to move, he/she will direct you to. As for a bit of humor, I also rode the motor for a few years(not so often anymore due to a new position), and a guy actually called to complain that I was intimidating. He told the shift supervisor that I had knee-high boots, a gun, and sunglasses on...um, I'm a motorcycle officer in the summer time.

I was always under the impression that as soon as you see the lights pull over as soon as possible. I've only been pulled over a couple times, and never once have I ever heard sirens while I was being pulled over.

My pet peeve about this is when I get pulled over (happens once or twice a year for some reason) I will pull to the side of the road before he can get his hand off the light switch, and I will get out and be at the rear of my truck before he can get it into park. I have had some cops say thanks for doing this and I have had some get on the loud speaker and tell me to get back in the truck. I feel that I and they are safer with them being able to see me and what I have in my hands or not have in my hands. :P

I've always heard that they prefer you to turn the vehicle off, roll down the drivers window, turn on the interior light if it is dark, and wait with both hands in sight. I think getting out makes them wonder if you are trying to keep them from looking inside the vehicle.

Yeah I don't get guys that pull into places or "find a place" I just pull over when I see the lights. I'd power-trip if I knew someone wasn't pulling over right away, and give them maximum fine, but that's cuz I'm a prick.

Getting out would be irratating to a cop I'd think, your supposed to sit and wait with license and registration please, LOL.

      Open Door Chimes When Key is Out

      2020 2500 HD...I had some trouble getting the key into the ignition switch but went in fine after applying some extra effort. Since then, the door chimes when open when the key is out of the ignition. Also, when I lock the doors with the switch on the arm rest, the driver door locks but then unlocks. (I can lock everything fine with the fob) The message on the little screen displays the "Engine Hours"...kinda weird.   I'm guessing something happened to the ignition switch and it thinks the key is still in there. I unplugged the batteries for 20 minutes, no change. There are a number of videos on YouTube but nothing I can find that address this specific issue. Ideas appreciated, thank you.

      Based on what I can tell, yes.   As for updating it, its a mixed bag.  Updates do fix a lot of issues, but occasionally can create some oddities.  They do more good than harm though overall.     Here's what the most current one does and a  V171 Improvements Important: Improvements will vary by model, build configuration, system, and sales region. Not all vehicles have all features. OnStar and Wi-Fi may not work after remote start CarPlay may not automatically reconnect Part of the Driver Attention messaging screen may be in English even though the language is set to something else XM may not work After a dead 12V the radio may set to Arabic at each startup Bluetooth contacts might not be able to sync with the vehicle During an OTA the 12V battery may drain Customer might see a screen telling them to return to the dealer After changing the Wi-Fi SSID or password a device may not disconnect If a device is connected on the 2.4Ghz band, nothing will connect to the 5Ghz one, which could show as slow Wi-Fi speeds Customers might have noticed Wi-Fi dropping in certain areas and reconnecting later Customer might see the top of the screen blinking during Android Auto Android Auto may not connect CarPlay audio might momentarily cut out The "Add Phone" button may be grayed out The radio may not start up   V167 Most Notable Improvements:   Outside Air Temperature is incorrect. -You may see a popup message for Engine Shift.       Front End Rattle

      Looking for help troubleshooting a metallic like front end rattle. Figured I’d see if anyone had thoughts before I schedule an appointment with the dealer.   The rattle is fairly loud and occurs primarily when the front driver side wheel hits a bump, even fairly minor road seams. Sometimes does it when the passenger hits a bump but I don’t believe when the rear hits. Rattle still occurs when foot is pressing brake peddle so I think that rules out the caliper rattle I’ve read about. I’ve also checked the running boards and they are tight.   Most noticeable at slow speeds.    Any insight is appreciated.

      We try to make cruise the coast. It’s where our favorite casino is. I only want to spectate. Never took a car. Always had one to take. I belonged to a club once. Even when I used to drag raced. It was during test and tune. Probably because I’m not a night owl, party person.

      We had a pretty big cars and coffee in Indy this past weekend.  Pretty much anything and everything was there.
