Someone Tell Me I Don't Need..

..a sliding rear window in my new truck.

Trying to get a 2010 via a dealer trade and the ones with rear sliders are hard to come by in any color or combo of options I would like.

Here is my dilemma...I am going to get a Silverado Crew Cab and add a topper with the "windoors" on the sides.

On my trucks previous to the current one, I had toppers and always had a rear sliding window in the truck and a front slider on the topper.

Since I now tow a dog trailer for my hunting, I really do not need the sliding windows since you can get a drop drop front window in the front of the topper to clean the rear truck window.

I can see me throwing a couple of dog crates under the topper for local training runs, local hunts, or individual runs to the vet, but for the most part any of the travelling with dogs on extended hunts will be done with a trailer.

So why in the heck am I so hung up on thinking I need sliding windows? I think it is a matter of it being what I always did before dog trailer.

Even on local hunts I can leave the side windows open when traveling and leave the back window open when stationary.

So...somebody make me feel better and tell me to forget about the rear slider in the truck and the front slider in the topper!

I would really like to take advantage of the $5000 rebates and an additional $2000 credit union rebate but if I do that with a 2010 Silverado Crew Cab, the slider isn't gonna happen.

Alright, well you don't need a damn sliding window in your truck. I don't have one. There, ya happy? But, IMO, if you're buying a truck, don't unless you're 100% satisfied with what you're getting. Do your homework.

Gee, can't the dealer install it for you? Seems as if that was the only thing holding up the deal, I'd put it in if I were the dealer. It's not that difficult.

I agree. Seems like a minor detail to me. It's not like your settling for a regular cab, but really want a crew cab, or settling for a 4.8 but you really want the 6.2. :P You could always add one later if you really missed it.

I had the power slider in my '07 and the only time I used it was when someone asked "Hey, what's that button up there for?" I don't have one in my '09 and don't miss it one bit. Plus, now my rear seat stays dry when I go through the automatic car wash.

OK you don't need one...I have not had a sliding rear window since 1991. And the last one I had leaked. I have not missed it.

I much rather have the rear defroster I have now than a sliding window.

Just my opinion

I'm not sure where you're from and if you have cold winters or not, but I opted for the solid rear window with the defrost which was way more important to me than a rear slider.

get the truck now and if you need it add a manual slider later

+1

Get it without you can always add one

By the way I really like my power slider :lol"

They still make trucks with rear windows that open!?

#%*)& I WANT ONE.

Dude if you can get it, GET IT. My last truck was a '91. The sliding rear window was even useful for such things as playing tag with people in the back while driving, getting in after I'd locked myself out (the latching frame debonded from one side, so it just took a firm pull to open it when locked), and straight cruisin'.

Went without it as it would be hard to explain to the colonel why I needed a $7500 dog trailer and am hauling dogs in the truck :seeya:
