Hey everyone thought I would post this and get some feedback on this size....

BFG 255/80/17

First off these have peeeked my interest and wanted some others to chime in on as to what they thought?

1.Is this a better option to avoid the rub as it is not as wide as say the 285,s

2.33.3 inches in diameter but only about 8-10 inches at the widest.

3.As turning is always an issue of the rub these mught be the ticket with the decreased width.

its probably exactly like the 255/85/16 (33x9.50) taller&skinnier than a 285/75..i considered them they would be great for the winter, but the 285,s look much better

i got 255/80's = 33.06x10.08 on the tire calculator. I would see if you can go 285/75's=33.8x11.2 or

 

295/70's = 33.2x11.6 seen on this members truck

Well the thing that makes me hesitant about the wider tires is the chance of rubbing,and the decreased mpg's.

I love the look of the 285 70 17 but still here a few members rubbing slightly and this is something i would like to avoid.

I am levelled but so are others and it seems they still rub.

Has anyone seen these on a 2500 or has them would love to see pics.

a 2500 sits higher then 1500s the ones you hear rubbing. So you have even more clearance. I would put money that non of these would rub on your stock wheels! I know many many people with 285s on stock wheels with level kit and do not rub and they all were 1500's so then u would clear even more!

Cool thanks will ponder the sizes but I agree the 285"s should do fine and would rather have them as there is more selection but those 255 80 17's peaked my interest.

Had aset of the BFG mud terrains before on one of my HD trucks and though they were really well performers in the snow and going through standing water at highway speeds, they have a poor wear life when driving on asphalt. Mainly due to the wider tread pattern. Take them off road and through some mud and you'll like the results of them! Getting back to winter driving, like I said I liked the traction in the snow, but the BGF AT was a better performer on icy surfaces. They also were a 8 ply E rated tire in the size I had them which was a 235 85r 16.

yeah i like the at"s but am still a little afraid of rubbing as my last truck rubbed so much it made driving it a thinking game when turning and don"t want to experience that again.

I might give the 285 70 17 a shot but on the other hand the 255 80 17 will give better mpg's but don't know about that pizza cutter look.

I would go 285s becauce ive been off roading in my friends truck with them and a 2" level kit and it never rubbed and we hit all kinds of stuff. His was 2008 1500 to so was even lower then yours. He had toyos and had them for like 70k miles.

I might have to go with the 285's they do look good.

But wouldn't the 255's give better mpg's ?

Or is the trade of bad looking pizza cutter?

Wish i could see both and compare!!!!

I think tall skinny tires on a HD truck look very good, kinda gives it a work truck feel to it as apposed to a show truck i guess and a HD should be a work truck, plus they work very well in snow.

Yeah that's what i thought and thanks for making me sway the other way again....Just kidding,Maybe i will have to try both at the tire store I locally shop at as he said he will let me try 2 different tires.

Tall vs wide hmmmmmmmmm all in all at least there both round!!!!

Skinny will yeild you much better milage and performance, give you better snow performance, and with skinny tires you can do much better burnouts!!!

Do a search for 275/60r20 or my user name im in a few of the post. They are 33x10.8 so really close to that size u posted 255 so u can get a idea around what it would looks like its only like .8 wider then the 255s. Some r on wider aftermarked wheels and some r on stock wheels

 

 

Or a 275/70r18 is 33.3x10.8

i was going to run that last size posted but look to skinny and the 255 is almost a inch skinny then it. Your truck is bigger to. I would go 285.

 

Yo talk about mpg i dont think u will see any diff between 255 and 285. Maybe .005 lol
