Many members here lately checking up on glitches/problems/ reliability of our 900 series trucks.

 

So, let's give our purchase date, current miles, and any warranty work done so far.

 

Daily driver

 

2010 Silverado LS, 1850 miles, 4.8. Bought June 2010

 

No issues as of yet. I pulled the OnStar fuse because I hated the incoming messages from OnStar.

 

No leaks, still drives tight. No road noise.

 

Front brake rotors have very slight out-of-round pulsation. Has not bothered me enough yet to fix it.

'08 Sierra SLT, 51,000 km, March '08

 

Fuel Pump replaced

Minor Rattle in sunvisor

Engine Ticks for 5 min or so on start up - No fix yet

Engine burns about a litre of oil every 1000 km - No fix yet, doing an oil consumption survey

Had rotors turned at 48,000 for pulsation when braking

Heavy condensation in one brake light

 

Other than that, a pretty flawless vehicle.

08 Sierra Crew

Oil pan leak: repaired

Driver's door lock actuator: repaired

 

Drives the same as the day I bought it. No issues.

2010

 

10K miles plus some change

 

Rear leaf springs changed at around 5K miles

07 Silverado 64 000 kms

 

Replaced both front wheel bearings, left one at 60 kms and the right at 61 kms roughly a week apart.

 

Heated washer fluid module removed.

07 Silverado crew cab LTZ VortecMax

 

60,000 miles

 

Only problem I have had is the sunroof drain plug got clogged and I had a little water leak with a heavy rain. Dealer took care of it though.

2008 gmc 5.3 sle2 z71 x-cab 40,000 miles

all 4 rims replaced due to corrosion

rear bumper replaced due to rust spotting

drivers door hinge replaced

sensor in gas tank replaced

2007 sierra. 40k wheels at 25k due to corrosion. Needs drivers door detention replaced. Front rotor pulse at 30k.

08 Sierra Crew, 6.2L. Coming up on 25k miles

 

Drivers front and passenger rear door actuators replaced (one at 5k and the other around 12k)

Center brake light replaced at 8k (probably tightened too much from factory, spider cracks extruding from screw hole)

Loud body bushing causing squeak/creak sound behind dash. I installed Teflon pad per TSB. Maybe at the 10k mark.

 

On really cold mornings i'll have some engine knock on startup for the first 2-3 minutes.

2007 V-Max 90,000 miles, bought July Of 2007

 

Daily Driver

 

Problems so far

 

Changed the front brakes three times and it needs front brakes soon.

 

Changed the rear brakes twice, so far so good.

 

Stock 17s used them for 20,000 miles, got a set of 20s with the Goodyear Eagle LS2 after and tires lasted 60,000 miles.

 

Broke the transmission at 80,000 miles, got it fixed under warranty.

 

Other than that it has been a great truck.

    • You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling. 
    • You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built. 
    • Diesel hit $6.00 here today at the truck stop.   Payed $2.79 for E85 today too.
