i just found an 04 sierra with 200,000 miles its a 1 owner truck, no accidents or issues, ive had a 6.0 in an hd truck and it was great, but not sure of one with 200.000 miles,

worst case if i did a basic rebuild, what route should i go.. or should i just drive it til it shits?

if just afraid of having the camper hooked up with the family on a trip and then of course something happeneing

To tell you the truth - I wouldn't worry too much about the engine if it's had reasonable care over its lifetime. Nonetheless - 200K miles on a 2500HD means that many other component parts could be reaching the end of their useful life expectancy. Brake assemblies, transmission, rear end, u-joints/ball joints, A/C, cooling systems - plus all the dash electronics etc etc.

Rebuilding any/all of these can run into large money and any/all of them can show up as problem - right before they fail.

If you needed a truck to pull or carry something around town - $7,500.00 isn't bad for that capability. Take in on the open road, pulling a camper to the middle of nowhere - NO WAY. For that you look for a really low mileage example that has been well cared for - - and you spend $18K to $23K.

Just my perspective

I would look around a bit more. I paid 8500 for my 04 2500HD with 80,000 miles on it. There are some good deals out there and unless the truck was meticulously maintained, I would be leery as you are nearing the end of the service life on the majority of the major components.

200,000 mile in 6 years thats very big deal.... this trucks has ran upto its best... and look for all the transaction if they can create any problems in future.... look for the average per gallon and then only prepare to get it... be fully researched of this car!!!

i would be more worried about what Carl B said, the engine will most likley be fine, but everything else most likely is worn. i would not get that truck as a daily driver, but it is a pretty good deal though.

Depends more on how the truck was used. If it's just a highway truck, then the components are probably "like new". If it's a work truck, then even 30k miles could be bad. Personally, I don't pay much attention to miles... just how it was used/maintained. I've had brand new seals blow out from not being used enough (drying out). I recently saw an article with a 700,000+ mile 2002 (ish) Dmax, and it looked new. Very few repairs had been done to it, and it was used to move large campers on a routine basis (transport).

edit: Your Yukon is probably a good example. How many miles, and how do you feel about it? Every 2001-2005 2500 Suburban I've looked at recently has been in "excellent" mechanical condition (by my own evaluation), and none had less than 130k miles. I'd dare say that none of the owners were nearly as picky as me re: maintenance either.

Miles dont bother me as long as the truck looks in good shape. If it looks to be taken care of on the outside/inside then odds are the components are prob the same way. Miles dont matter to me on newer vechiles.

ohh yeah i think i have seen that before... its a 2 tone pewter/gray ECLB GMC 2500 with like 751,000 miles? dosent it have its own website?

If you check NADA you will see even a work truck with no options and 200k is worth that or more. The big variable is

just afraid of having the camper hooked up with the family on a trip and then of course something happeneing

And the only answer to that one I think is a close inspection and some seat time.
